Moor Memories in <strong>the</strong> Bradfi eld, Midhope & Langsett AreasTime Period CoveredMost of <strong>the</strong> contributions in <strong>the</strong> booklet relate to memories of life in <strong>the</strong> twentieth century especially from<strong>the</strong> 1930s onwards. This refl ects <strong>the</strong> age of <strong>the</strong> contributors who have related personal stories of <strong>the</strong>irhome <strong>and</strong> working life. However, some have provided in<strong>for</strong>mation which reveals glimpses of life in <strong>the</strong>nineteenth <strong>and</strong> earlier centuries setting <strong>the</strong> context <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> changes which have taken place more recently.The changes seen at a local level which have taken place over <strong>the</strong> last 100 years can be set against a backdropof wider changes in almost every aspect of British society. The memories refl ect <strong>the</strong> rise in publichealth provision of clean drinking water <strong>and</strong> tighter pollution control; <strong>and</strong> changes in <strong>the</strong> economy with <strong>the</strong>rise <strong>and</strong> fall of <strong>the</strong> metalworking <strong>and</strong> mining industries <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> changes in farming practices.
