Thecode is based on the 2009version of the InternationalBuilding Code. Weunderstand that the Abu DhabiDepartment of MunicipalAffairs (DMA) may be requiring special inspections offirestopping as an amendment to the code. We sent the2012 International Building Code language for specialinspections of firestopping that FCIA was successfulwith at the ICC Hearings for DMA to use as a reference.Efforts like this continue to improve the reliability ofinstalled firestopping in buildings. We met Ms. FatmaAmer at the FCIA Educational Seminar in Abu Dhabi,UAE last year. Check out the winter edition Life SafetyDigest for more about this development.FCIA at ICC Hearings - FCIA had the honorof being selected by the ICC Councils and Boardof Directors to participate as a member of theInternational Building Code Fire Safety Committee.The service on the Fire Safety Committee this codecycle was a lot of work, but well worth the time to“give back” and volunteer at this important codedevelopment process. FCIA made some friends whileat both the Committee Action Hearings and the FinalAction Hearings visiting with building officials, firemarshals,and industryrepresentativesfrom aroundthe world.Thanks toBob Hastingand TonnieCavanais whoworked the FCIA Exhibition Booth at ICC’s TradeICC Code Development Final Action Hearings allow debatefor governmental members to make voting decisions.Show while Executive Director Bill McHugh travelledto Atlanta for ASTM E06 Meetings.Additionally, Bob Hasting and Bill McHugh spokeat the ICC Expo education sessions on Tuesday andWednesday. FCIA co-presented the session with theInternational Firestop Council’s Brice Miller. It was anopportunity for FCIA to focus on the “IIM” of “DIIM”story in addition to products, testing and plan review.ICC’s Annual Luncheon and Banquet were verywell attended, with about 1,500 people attendingeach event.
