<strong><strong>IP</strong>focus</strong>Excellent Start to 2010 Programme at<strong>IP</strong>-in-Action LIVE LiverpoolThe <strong>IP</strong>-in-Action LIVE programme for 2010commenced at a great venue, the iconic AdelphiHotel in Liverpool on Thursday 11th March.The Adelphi hotel was the perfect venue for <strong>IP</strong>-in-Action LIVE Liverpool which carried the theme “Ports,Terminals and Airports”.In years gone by the hotel was used by customersbefore their transatlantic embarkation to theAmericas and the magnificently ornate Lounge room,where the Exhibition Area was situated, was theinspiration and template for the famous ballroom onthe Titanic!The 90 plus guests and members had the opportunityto spend quality time viewing and discussing theexcellent display of the very latest products andservices using <strong>IP</strong> technology from more than 20companies in the Exhibition Area.Exhibition Area - LIVE DemonstrationsThroughout the day attendees were provided withrefreshments and the opportunity to browse thestands in the Exhibition Area. He continued by lookingat the challenges and issues to Maritime Security ona global scale and identified the particular issuesfacing the UnitedKingdom. He alsodiscussed theGovernments (andoppositions) views alongwith ongoing initiativesand the technologiesavailable.This was followed by Ian Dickinson, Regional SalesManager UK & Ireland for March Networks whopresented “Fail SafeRecording Options for <strong>IP</strong>Edge Devices”. Iancommented that <strong>IP</strong> videosystems can be vulnerableto network faults, serverfailures or power outages,and the cost of mitigatingthese risks has traditionally been high. He explainedthat NAS recording and Shadow Archiving used incombination can strengthen system redundancy andvideo access cost-effectively as well asdemonstrating the evolving importance of edgebasedarchitectures.After a short break for refreshments and some timein the exhibition area guests were informed about the“Life Cycle costs of <strong>IP</strong> CCTV” from Andy MacNamara,Business Manager at Vicon Industries. Andyintroduced the Life Cycle costs are now aconsideration of any significant purchase with most ifnot all contracts now having a Life Cycle clause. Herewe look at the implications of Life Cycle expectationson <strong>IP</strong> CCTV systems including option evaluation &improved forecasting.Vicon: Andy MacnamaraCEM Systems: Paul SheeranAndy was followed by a case study of a unique 1st ofits kind in Europe project. “Innovative Access Controland Integrated Biometrics” from Paul Sheeran,Business Development Manager for CEM Systemsdiscussed some recent examples of airports includingManchester where the biometric solution has beenfully integrated into the access control system forone operational / security management process.During the free buffet lunch with refreshments,members and guests had the opportunity to networkwith fellow professionals and spend quality time inthe Exhibition Area.Further presentations in the afternoon included“Extending the Boundaries – Perimeter Security” fromJason Boyce, Business Development Manager atGallagher Security who investigated how perimetersecurity can add an essential layer to the totalintegrated security solution and also took a specificlook at the advent of Identity Analytics along with“Thermal CCTV – Long Range Video Surveillance” withJohn Downie, the National Sales & Marketing Managerat CBC Europe Ltd.
