CIVIL DISCOURSE
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.” These words bring us up short! What could we be doing to grieve the
Holy Spirit? Alas, the same things that the Ephesians were doing in the time of Paul, that is, fighting, shouting,
reviling each other with fury, anger, and malice. Just tune in to talk radio some day or observe some “road rage”
on the expressway. If we who are partakers of the Body of Christ can treat one another this way, what does that
mean about our belief in Christ’s message of peace and reconciliation? The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity.
It is communion with God and with each other. A good first step would be to speak civilly to each other, even in

Mark your calendar to join us on Friday, January 25, 2013 at
the March For Life in Washington, DC. This is the largest and
longest-running civil rights protest in modern times. We will
remember the more than 50 MILLION babies killed by edict
of the United States Supreme Court in their ROE V. WADE
DECISION in 1973. (People Concerned for the Unborn Child
July-August 2012 Newsletter) If you have come to every
March or if you have never come, don’t miss this chance to
walk and pray and witness to the country and the world. Your
presence and your voice will speak for the millions who
cannot speak for themselves.

On Sunday, September 9, 2012, we will hold
our 4th Annual St. Patrick Parish Picnic at the
Yoney Pavilion in Town Park. Fr. Jack will
celebrate mass at 1:00 pm. Then, we will have
our picnic. Parishioners are encouraged to
bring a covered dish in a disposable container with a disposable
serving utensil, preferably between noon and 1:00 pm. It is
suggested that those whose last names begin with the letters:

SYMPOSIUM O� RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
A symposium on Religious Liberty and the Year of Faith is being
held and hosted by the Diocese of Pittsburgh in two locations in
August. The first is August 13 at Saint Paul Seminary in the
Crafton area, and the second is August 20 at St. Richard Parish,
Gibsonia. Led by Bishop David A. Zubik, DD, panelists include
Judge Maureen Lally-Green (retired) Associate General Secretary
of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Rita Joyce, JD, JC, General Counsel,
Diocese of Pittsburgh, and Helene Paharik, MA, Director, Department
for Human Dignity, Diocese of Pittsburgh. Sessions begin at
7 pm with prayer and conclude by 8:30 pm.
DIOCESA� CHOIR AUDITIO�S
Auditions for the 2012-2013 Diocesan Choir season will soon
be held. The Choir, under the direction of Fr. Jim Chepponis,
Music Director for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, sings for the
major Diocesan Events at St. Paul’s Cathedral throughout the
year. Currently there are openings in the soprano, alto, tenor
and bass sections. In addition to being good singers, potential
members must be capable of sight-readers due to a limited
rehearsal schedule, and at least 18 years of age. Rehearsals are
held at St. John Capistran Church in Upper St. Clair. Audition
times may be scheduled by calling Doris Anne in the
Diocesan Music Office (412.456.3042) before August 16.

Fr. Batykefer will celebrate Mass on the Feast of St.
Vincent de Paul, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 5:00
pm. All members of St. Vincent de Paul and the Ladies of
Charity are invited. There will be a ‘picnic’ style dinner
in the rectory following Mass. Bring your favorite dish; a
sign up sheet will be provided during the month of

ADULTS: Do You Want To Learn About Catholicism
and/or Receive Sacraments of Initiation?
RCIA is the process through which interested adults are gradually
introduced to the Roman Catholic faith and way of life. This Fall,
St. Patrick will again begin a Period of Inquiry. During this
period, teaching is given to people who are interested in learning
more about the Catholic faith. These sessions cover basic information
about the faith and fundamentally should communicate
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no obligation involved in
attending these meetings, they are intended to help a person
decide whether they want to continue learning about the faith.
Attendees at this stage are known as Inquirers. If you have been
pondering becoming Catholic or are Catholic, but have not
received all of your Sacraments and would like to, please call
