Iron ore exports via Vizag port rise mom in April - Mjunction

IRON ORE & METALLIC’SContd. from previous PgIn March this year however, most of the scrap came in from South Africa(1,622 tons), with Russia (1,002 tons), UK (486 tons), US (270 tons) andMozambique (260 tons) being some of the other major exporters during themonth.In April 2011, almost 4,613 tons of scrap were imported through the portmainly from South Africa (3140 tons) followed by 1,010 tons from UK. SierraLeone, Georgia and Madagascar were some of the other major countriesexporting scrap during the month.The average unit price of scrap in April stood at around Rs 26,476/ton whichwas higher than the average price in March which stood at Rs 25,788/ton.Scrap imports viaVizag port sharplydown m-o-m in AprilISMWScrap imports via Vizag port fell drastically in April 2012 to 10,157 tons ascompared to 41,589 tons in March, as per information available with ISMWon May 11.Out of the entire quantity the highest amount of almost 3,181 tons camein from UK followed by 2,000 tons from Mexico and 1,726 tons from SouthKorea.Also, 1,044 tons came in from Germany while 974 tons was importedfrom Netherlands and 514 tons from South Africa. Indonesia, Singapore andMalaysia were the other countries from where scrap got imported during themonth.In March 2012, most of the scrap imports happened from Mexico of almost19,400 tons followed by US with 12,526 tons and Netherlands with 3,879 tons.Germany, UK and South Korea were other major importers importing 2,005tons, 1,479 tons and 1,017 tons respectively.Smaller quantities also came in from Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa andSingapore.In April 2011, around 4,413 tons of scrap came in through Vizag port, muchlower than imports recorded in the corresponding month of 2012.The average import price of scrap in April stood at around Rs 75,559/tonwhile that in March was recorded at around Rs 48,920/ton.Pig iron exportsthrough Paradip portup m-o-m in MarchISMWExport of pig iron through Paradip port rose nearly 70% to 31,500 tons inMarch this year as compared to 18,500 tons in February, as per informationavailable with ISMW.In January 2012, a total of 41,500 tons were exported while during Marchlast year, exports of 27,800 tons took place through the port.The entire exports by MMTC in March this year went to Thailand at anassessed price of Rs 22,356/ton.A total of 274,500 tons of pig iron has been exported through Paradip portin 2011-12.
