More than 185 grandparentscame to the event that included a dessert reception in the Sr. DeborahHospitality Room and a tour of the school led personally by their granddaughters. The tour ended at the school chapel, where families had theirpictures taken.Sr. Deborah Troillett, RSM ‘73, president, along with Diane Wolfe, principal, helped welcome the grandparents as they entered the hospitality room forthe reception. Senior class officers served mini-cupcakes and brownies thathad been prepared by Mrs. Susan Moore’s Family and Consumer Scienceclasses. When it was all over, consensus was that it was hard to tell whoenjoyed the day more; the granddaughters or their grandparents. Pleasemark your calendars now for next year’s grandparent reception which willbe held on March 30, 2012. It has been avery rewarding field; an engineering backgroundoffers very diverse careers andexperiences for those who choose it.Chemical Engineering graduates receiveamong the highest paid starting salaries. Wehear so much today about jobs going overseasand students in our own country notconcentrating in math and science; encouragingmore students – specifically women –to pursue these technology-based areas iskey to reversing this trend. With the Wells Pre-Engineering Scholarship,I hope to encourage young women at theMount to seriously consider a career in thesciences or engineering by encouraging themto take advanced math and science coursesoffered at MSM. I started the scholarship in2009 and continue to contribute to it annuallyto build the principal; my will containsprovisions for proceeds from an insurancepolicy to be earmarked for the scholarshipprinciple as well.So....why did I establish this scholarship?1.) Because of what I received from theMount.2.) Because I believe in women helpingwomen.3.) Because I believe that this is a lastinglegacy for future generations ofwomen.”— M. M.
