Imagine thattoday, one table of women — actually not even a fulltable of ten, but of nine — hear a deep calling to dosomething together to respond to a very critical need inour community here in Little Rock. Imagine that thistable of nine began working together immediately…sharing gifts, talents, and their knowledge for sure, butmostly sharing their faith in God. Sharing their desire tomake a difference, their desire to create hope for the future, and their genuinelove of God and neighbor…whoever that neighbor turned out to be.Soon word got out... word about what they were doing, but even more...what they were doing was characterized by things like: excellence, quality, hospitality, compassion, innovation and respect. Now imagine that this leadership and service that began that day had suchlasting impact that 160 years later, in 2171, the story of that table of nine was stillbeing told and retold, honored and celebrated on a day like today and in a placeonly a few blocks from where it all began. Can you imagine that really happening? Well...it did happen, and it IS happeningand it is a story about the oldest new thing in town called “Mercy & Me.”For more than 160 years, we have retold, honored and celebrated this legacy ofMercy leadership when nine Sisters of Mercy (not even a table full) responded to acritical concern in this community. The concern? Parents, like many of you, wantedquality education for their children based in faith, hope and love....in God's mercy. And the rest is history. In some way, great or small, all of us have been touched by their decision torespond and to follow our Lord and leader. And because of that, all gathered herehave in some way been touched by this great MERCY of our God.We are here to celebrate this gospel legacy of mercy planted in our hearts thatproduces all kinds of leaders. We are here to encourage and honor all who hear acalling and lead from their hearts with the very compassion of God. We are here tocelebrate the leadership of us all. Thank you all for being present today. The Mercy & Me Committee: Seated L to R: Janet Keller, Muriel Wilkins,Caroline Puddephatt, Laura Hathaway, Stacey Hall, Leighton Weeks, Sarah Johnson,Alice Cooner and Kristi Clark. Standing L to R: Susie Whitacre, Sherry Wortsmith,Margaret Kemp, Leigh Ann Raper, Donna Bressinck, Ginger Quinn, Dana Kleine,Amber Enderlin, Dana Silaski and Jennifer McCarty. 5Principal Points:MSM EarnsRave Reviewsby Diane WolfeRecently, Mount St. Mary completed a twoyear self-study assessment and dual accreditation. In order toearn and maintain accreditation, schools must meetaccreditation standards, engage in a process of continuousimprovement, and host a Quality Assurance Review at leastonce every five years. The Mount is very proud to haveobtained accreditation status from Advanc-Ed (formerlyNorth Central) for 80 years and from ANSAA (Arkansas NonPublic School Accreditation Association) since its inception. The seven standards by which MSM was assessed areVision and Purpose; Governance and Leadership; Teachingand Learning; Documenting and Using Results; Resourceand Support Systems; Stakeholder Communications andRelationships; and, Commitment to Continuous Improvement. Many parents, board members, students, faculty and staffparticipated in this accreditation process and for this we arevery thankful. I am very pleased to announce the QualityAssurance Review Team gave Mount St. Mary an exemplaryaccreditation report with the following commendations. MSMwas commended for:1. promoting a climate that incorporates thecomponents of the school’s mission, specifically the Mercy Values, throughout theschool community.2. remaining focused on the mission and purposeof the school which includes communityservice to the greater Little Rock area.3. promoting student leadership which results inempowered, self-confident young women.4. maintaining a compassionate and safe familyenvironment for all students.5. providing a comprehensive guidance program toaid students in educational, personal, social andcareer development.6. offering a rigorous International Baccalaureate programto highly motivated students.7. actively pursuing up-to-date technology (i.e. SMARTboards,Renaissance Language Labs) for enhancing thelearning environment.8. initiating a well-planned laptop program that directlyimpacts student learning.9. creating and maintaining a safe, aestheticallypleasing facility.10. establishing and maintaining the MSM Foundation, adevelopment program to assist the school in achievinglong-range and short-term goals.Just like our mission states…we are dedicated to building astrong moral and intellectual foundation for our students inorder to fully prepare them to meet the challenges of thefuture as women of wisdom, compassion and integrity. Mount Puts Heart and Sole Into ProjectMount girls have never been ones to shy awayfrom a challenge, so when the boys at Catholic High issueda friendly competition, we were interested. When we heardthe challenge involved donating shoes for a good cause, well, we knew we were a “shoe-in” to win. CHS seniorMichael Barr was coordinating a project sponsored by theOzark Water Project, whereby donated shoes are exportedto distributors in South America, Haiti and Kenya. The shoesare then sold for pennies on the dollar. Proceeds from theresale of the shoes goes to buy well-digging rigs, waterpurification systems and other supplies that bring fresh waterto those in need.Michael thought it would be fun to get the girls on board, knowing that in the end, it would only result in moredonations. And more, it did. Thanks to an outpouring ofsupport from students, parents, friends and alumnae, MSMbrought in 3,280 pairs of shoes. CHS brought in 461 pairs,In a little over a week, MSM collected more then 3,000 pairsof shoes that were donated to the Ozark Water Project.proving once again, that when we work together, greatthings can happen.

Of particular note: Upon being namedBishop of Little Rock in 2008, Bishop Taylorreceived an amethyst ring that had oncebelonged to Bishop Byrne. The Sisters of Mercyreceived the ring as a “thank you” forthe special care they gave BishopByrne prior to his death in 1862.Bishop Taylor wore the ring during Sue Mistric places a Mercy Pin on thethe celebration, incorporating its collar of sophomore Hayley Louks.story into his Homily. The Founders’ Day celebration also included the annual presentation ofMercy Pins to the sophomore class. Barnett and Dillard’s for donating prizesthat were awarded to help launch Dinner Belles 2011.An event of this size does not happen without the support and generosity of many, many people. Mount St. Mary and the Dinner Belles committee would like to thankall of the volunteers, donors and buyers who contributed to Dinner Belles’ success! They were:2011 Party Donors:Linda AdkinsAllied BankRobyn PhillipsAllmendinger ‘95The Alluvian HotelGaye & Bob AndersonTish Anderson, Maggie ‘10& Kate Anderson ‘13Argenta Bead CompanyKimberly Jack Bailey ‘86Ballet ArkansasLinda Isenman Barry ‘63Andria BeckhamBett-B-FarmsGina (Scerbo ’84) &John BilgerSydney Bueter Blackmon ‘95Elizabeth Pruniski Blake ‘29Patti & Larry BoccarossaJennifer ’01, Ashley ’03 &Stephanie Boccarossa ‘06Susan BoeErin Crain Brady ‘90Donna Bowers Bressinck ‘64Rebecca Brosius ‘75Tricia Brown ‘75Ann Jackson Brown ‘87Aimee Calvin Brown ‘87Burge's Smoked Turkeysand Hams, Connie &Jeff VoylesCabbage Rose – DavidKirkpatrickCafé Bossa NovaRosey Seguin-CalderonVicki CalhounCapital HotelMeg Taylor Chase ‘84Lange Robinson Cheek ‘84Chick-fil-A – North Little RockRooney ChuCiao's Italian RestaurantAlissa Munson Coffield ‘87Jane Ferrill Colclasure ‘63Edith Jack Crowell ‘83Cupcakes, Christy MulliganErin Selakovich Davis ‘76Tricia & Craig DavisJanet Kirspel Deeter ‘63Diamond Bear Brewing Co.Coco & Keith DorseyDownstream Casino ResortMarjorie Tedford Dudley ‘80Buff & Jay EasterlyEllen Golden AntiquesJan FairmanJenny Crews Faulkner ‘95Margie FranceBetty & Katherine Friend ‘10Megan Saer Garrison ‘99Gretchen (Elsken ’70) &Mike GowenMaggie Crocker Grove ‘87Sherry HallNancy & Judge Jim HamiltonAmy Kemp Harkins ‘95Bonnie & Ed HarveyLaura Hathaway,Mary Grace ’10 &Helen Hathaway ‘13Heights Toy Center, Brenda& Greg BonnerNikki Hite ‘95Shirley & John IrianaLiz (Renaud’79) &Dennis JacksMichaela Dolan Johnson ‘87Kelly JohnsonBeth Saer Jones ‘97Rebecca Bailey Kane ‘80Janet KellerTerry Alexander Leach ‘87Lexicon, Inc.Little Rock Racquet ClubSusie Wallace Lowther ‘75Susie MadiganDanny MaginnCatherine MatthewsMartin ‘63Jennifer SchueckMcCarty ‘87Margaret MillerMcGinness ‘84Sandra Monroe McKay ‘84Men of the MSM Board ofDirectorsVickey (Hum ’69) &Jim MetrailerElizabeth Deal Miller ‘80Missy Mooney Morehart ‘87MSM PTO BoardMurry's Dinner PlayhouseThe Painted Pig, AllieMaxwell Nottingham ‘02Debbie Shields Papineau ‘79Debbie & Cal ParteeDiana PearsonKristi PennebakerPatsy Robertson Perry ‘63Gretchen Wewers Pierce ‘90Chef Andre PoirotPrimrose CreekBarbara & David PryorJill (Guffin ’84) &Mark PryorBetty Catlett Pullam ‘63The Purple CowLeigh Ann Crain Raper ‘87Laura Rasco Reeves ‘87Ellen ReifRaymond RinchusoKaren RitcheyRiverfront SteakhouseLaura CaldareraRobinette ‘63James “Bussie” RobinsonRock Town DistilleryAngelica (Luna ’91) &John RogersWendy SaerAshley Saer ‘93Sherrie SandorVicki ScanlonAnn Bailey Schlumberger ‘71Tom SchneiderBeth Sigler ‘87Dana Ferguson Silaski ‘82Drew ‘10, Rachel andSarah Silaski ‘14Anna Marie MartineSimon ‘87Elizabeth Thomas Smith ‘87Jossie Valentin Smith ‘95Melinda SmithSusie SmithMissy (Worley ‘69) &Joe SolomonSonny Williams' SteakRoomCindy Miller Stabnick ‘73Pat TedfordTerry’s Finer Foods –Lex GoldenMickey (Zemann ‘81) &Bob ThomasAmy Treadway ‘87TulipsCatherine Thomas Vest ‘87The Villa Italian RestaurantLezlie Wewers Vlasimsky ‘84War Memorial StadiumHaven HornibrookWaters ‘63John “Thebeersnob” WellsKelly & Eric WewersJulie WewersSusie Whitacre, Abby ‘10 &Madeline Whitacre ‘14Carrie Whiteside ‘87Kasia Zanoff Williams ‘63Debbie FoglemanWilliamsonDiane & Keith WolfeSherry Wilkins Wortsmith ‘63Bettye Lou RheinYakoubian ‘63The Yarn Mart, CindyHedgesZaZa Fine Salad & WoodOven Pizza Co.Marilyn Zornick

More than 185 grandparentscame to the event that included a dessert reception in the Sr. DeborahHospitality Room and a tour of the school led personally by their granddaughters. The tour ended at the school chapel, where families had theirpictures taken.Sr. Deborah Troillett, RSM ‘73, president, along with Diane Wolfe, principal, helped welcome the grandparents as they entered the hospitality room forthe reception. Senior class officers served mini-cupcakes and brownies thathad been prepared by Mrs. Susan Moore’s Family and Consumer Scienceclasses. When it was all over, consensus was that it was hard to tell whoenjoyed the day more; the granddaughters or their grandparents. Pleasemark your calendars now for next year’s grandparent reception which willbe held on March 30, 2012. It has been avery rewarding field; an engineering backgroundoffers very diverse careers andexperiences for those who choose it.Chemical Engineering graduates receiveamong the highest paid starting salaries. Wehear so much today about jobs going overseasand students in our own country notconcentrating in math and science; encouragingmore students – specifically women –to pursue these technology-based areas iskey to reversing this trend. With the Wells Pre-Engineering Scholarship,I hope to encourage young women at theMount to seriously consider a career in thesciences or engineering by encouraging themto take advanced math and science coursesoffered at MSM. I started the scholarship in2009 and continue to contribute to it annuallyto build the principal; my will containsprovisions for proceeds from an insurancepolicy to be earmarked for the scholarshipprinciple as well.So....why did I establish this scholarship?1.) Because of what I received from theMount.2.) Because I believe in women helpingwomen.3.) Because I believe that this is a lastinglegacy for future generations ofwomen.”— M. M.
