Imagine thattoday, one table of women — actually not even a fulltable of ten, but of nine — hear a deep calling to dosomething together to respond to a very critical need inour community here in Little Rock. Imagine that thistable of nine began working together immediately…sharing gifts, talents, and their knowledge for sure, butmostly sharing their faith in God. Sharing their desire tomake a difference, their desire to create hope for the future, and their genuinelove of God and neighbor…whoever that neighbor turned out to be.Soon word got out... word about what they were doing, but even more...what they were doing was characterized by things like: excellence, quality, hospitality, compassion, innovation and respect. Now imagine that this leadership and service that began that day had suchlasting impact that 160 years later, in 2171, the story of that table of nine was stillbeing told and retold, honored and celebrated on a day like today and in a placeonly a few blocks from where it all began. Can you imagine that really happening? Well...it did happen, and it IS happeningand it is a story about the oldest new thing in town called “Mercy & Me.”For more than 160 years, we have retold, honored and celebrated this legacy ofMercy leadership when nine Sisters of Mercy (not even a table full) responded to acritical concern in this community. The concern? Parents, like many of you, wantedquality education for their children based in faith, hope and love....in God's mercy. And the rest is history. In some way, great or small, all of us have been touched by their decision torespond and to follow our Lord and leader. And because of that, all gathered herehave in some way been touched by this great MERCY of our God.We are here to celebrate this gospel legacy of mercy planted in our hearts thatproduces all kinds of leaders. We are here to encourage and honor all who hear acalling and lead from their hearts with the very compassion of God. We are here tocelebrate the leadership of us all. Thank you all for being present today. The Mercy & Me Committee: Seated L to R: Janet Keller, Muriel Wilkins,Caroline Puddephatt, Laura Hathaway, Stacey Hall, Leighton Weeks, Sarah Johnson,Alice Cooner and Kristi Clark. Standing L to R: Susie Whitacre, Sherry Wortsmith,Margaret Kemp, Leigh Ann Raper, Donna Bressinck, Ginger Quinn, Dana Kleine,Amber Enderlin, Dana Silaski and Jennifer McCarty.
