Students will learn the proper techniques and methods for using the alphanumeric keys onthe computer.Course ObjectivesThe objective of this course is to provide instruction on the proper techniques and methods for using thealphanumeric keys and offer opportunities to increase speed and accuracy. The student should be able toachieve a minimum of 70% proficiency including, but not limited to, the following objectives:1. Complete 5 3-minute timed writings with a minimum rate of 40 GWAM with 6 or fewer errors within30 minutes.2. Operate the figure row of the main keyboard with only limited visual help.3. Identify and use certain parts of the computer.Through course lessons and timed writings the student should be able to achieve a minimum grade of 70 inaccordance with the <strong>Clovis</strong> <strong>Municipal</strong> <strong>School</strong>s Grading Scale.Grading ScaleThe <strong>Clovis</strong> <strong>Municipal</strong> <strong>School</strong>s Grading Scale:A 90-100B 80-89C 70-79D 60-69F 0-59Grading PolicyFailure is not an option!The letter grade earned by each student will be recorded both at <strong>Clovis</strong> High <strong>School</strong> and at <strong>Clovis</strong> CommunityCollege. A grade of W is recorded at <strong>Clovis</strong> Community College when a student formally withdraws from a<strong>Clovis</strong> Community College course. The grades will be figured as follows:

Improving speedand accuracy in keyboarding requires practice. You cannot practice if you are not here. Attendancerequirements will follow the <strong>Clovis</strong> <strong>Municipal</strong> <strong>School</strong>s Attendance Policy. After the first five unexcusedabsences the parent/guardian will receive a letter from the Assistant Principal. A copy of the letter will be sentto juvenile probation and the <strong>District</strong> Attorney’s office. After ten unexcused absences the parent/guardian willbe contacted to set up a meeting regarding the absences. A copy of the letter will be sent to juvenile probationand the <strong>District</strong> Attorney’s office.Academic IntegrityAcademic dishonesty includes plagiarism and other forms of cheating behavior. Academic dishonesty isunacceptable. Students committing acts of academic dishonesty shall be penalized by lowering or failing gradeson assignments and/or for the entire course, depending upon the teacher’s evaluation of the severity of thedishonest act.Class RulesRespect yourselfespect others and takeesponsibility for your actions


Lab ProceduresStudents will be assigned to a computer work station. Students will use their own individual log-in andpassword. Students will save all work to their own individual folder on the school server. Students will onlyuse the printer when instructed by the teacher or when the directions state to do so. Parents and students mustread and sign the Official Notification of Acceptable Use Procedures for the Computer System and the Internetfor <strong>Clovis</strong> <strong>Municipal</strong> <strong>School</strong>s.Daily ProceduresBeginning of Class ProcedureStudents will log in at their assigned computer station and begin working on the Focus (warm-up lesson) assoon as the bell rings. The teacher will take attendance during this time.Instruction ProcedureThe teacher will lecture/demonstrate new material. Students will follow along in the textbook and workthrough the lessons with teacher led instruction. At the end of each lesson the students will work on theassignments independently.Turning in WorkStudents will turn in any printed documents in the class folder (by period). Students will turn in make up workin the make up work folder.Make Up WorkStudents will have 3 days from the due date to turn in make up work. Students will need to schedule a timewith the teacher when they can come in to use the computer.End of Class ProcedureStudents will log off their assigned computer three minutes before the bell rings. Students will return theircomputer stations to their original state; keyboard rolled under, chair rolled up to the desk, etc.Exam Day ProceduresStudents will complete the Focus (warm-up lesson). The teacher will take attendance during this time.Absolutely no talking among students during the exam until all exams are turned in.
