264.2. Paid and Unpaid Overtime HoursOf our respondents, 367 (27%) reported working paid overtime at premium pay and 283(21%) work unpaid overtime hours. When comparing how many overtime hours <strong>the</strong> nursesworked to <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> overtime hours <strong>the</strong>y preferred, results show that 20% <strong>of</strong> nurses workedmore overtime than <strong>the</strong>y preferred and 9% <strong>of</strong> nurses worked less overtime than <strong>the</strong>y preferred.Staff shortages were <strong>the</strong> most commonly given reason for working paid overtime hours. Forunpaid overtime, a large majority responded that <strong>the</strong>y were working overtime to finish tasksunable to complete during <strong>the</strong>ir regular work hours.
