Zener BarrierZ966.HFeaturesAssembly• 2-channel• AC version• Working voltage 10 V at 10 µA• Series resistance max. 82 Ω• Fuse rating 100 mA• DIN rail mounting• High power versionFront viewTag holder1 23 4Terminalshazardous areaFunctionThe Zener Barrier prevents the transfer of unacceptably highenergy from the safe area into the hazardous area. The zener diodes in the Zener Barrier are connected in thereverse direction. The breakdown voltage of the diodes is notexceeded in normal operation. If this voltage is exceeded, due to a fault in the safe area, the diodes start to conduct, causing the fuse to blow. The Zener Barrier has alternatingpolarities, i. e. interconnected zener diodes are employed andone side is grounded. The Zener Barrier can be used for bothalternating voltage signals and direct voltage signals.Shield and groundconnection5 67 8Terminalssafe areaThis high power version has a smaller serial resistance andtherefore provides higher voltage to the field device.Depending on the application, increased or decreasedintrinsic safety parameters apply for serial or parallelconnection. For the detailed parameters refer to the ZenerBarrier certificate. Application examples can be found in thesystem description of the Zener Barriers.ConnectionRelease date 2009-11-23 14:09 Date of issue 2009-11-23 071996_ENG.xmlZone 0, 1, 2Div. 1, 2+-182x373x364 5Zone 2Div. 2Subject to reasonable modifications due to technical advances.Copyright Pepperl+Fuchs, Printed in GermanyPepperl+Fuchs Group • Tel.: Germany +49-621-776-0 • USA +1-330-4253555 • Singapore +65-67-799091 • Internet www.pepperl-fuchs.com 1
