10 THE PENNSYLVA NI:\ ODD FELLOW July 2007MIDDLETOWN HOME NEWS Summer is here! Residents were enjoying the great weatherearly this year. Many sat outdoors with staff to breath in the freshair and enjoy the sunshine. Two van trips went to HarrisburgSenator's Baseball games. For one resident, it was his first time everto a minor league game. He loved the experience and will neverforget the sound <strong>of</strong> the crack <strong>of</strong>the bat! Residents also enjoyed theAntique CarShow, in honor <strong>of</strong>Father's Day. Residents enjoyed thesunshine and reminisced about cars back in their day. They alsoenjoyed snow cones from an area vendor. Mmmmmm and oh socool!With Summer comes picnics and every year The MiddletownHome celebrates a Home Day picnic with a chicken barbeque andtime with family and friends. The weather always seems to cooperateand the social atmosphere is always pleasurable.Personal Care residents at The Home assisted staff with raisingnew American Flags around The Home. The Rags are important toal'! <strong>of</strong> us and have so much meaning to many <strong>of</strong> our residents whoserved in the armed forces.Van trips for the Summer include two trips to a local farm whereresidents can enjoy the beauty <strong>of</strong> the farm and its animals andreminisce about farm life. The owner <strong>of</strong> the farm lets residents givesnacks to the animals and pet them.Employee and Volunteer <strong>of</strong> the Month announcements arealways enjoyable. This month the employee <strong>of</strong> the month is SusanParkovic. Her ballot stated: Susie has been a faithful, devotedemployee for many years and a well deserving candidate foremployee <strong>of</strong> the Month. She has been the accountant, financialbookkeeper and ahove all she makes sure payro'll is completed forall <strong>of</strong> us every two weeks. We ha e never once missed a payday"Thanks to Susie". She is a kind and pleasant person and havingworked with her has been a great pleasure. Another ballot stated:Sue is quiet and goes about her \\·ork on a Jaily basis. She runs thebusi ness <strong>of</strong>fice very efficient! y. u i depenJableand hard working.Many are not aware <strong>of</strong> her dedic ti n and hard work.This month, the Volunteer f th month is Richard Brienzo. Hisballot stated: Richard is dedicated ro ()ur resiJents at TheMiddletown Home. He comes ( our home every Tuesday to praythe Rosary with many resident and they fee I comforted by his visits.We thank uur employee and volunteers for touching theresident's lives!Following the Arthritis Committee meeting on Sunday, June3,2007, representatives from the Eastern PA Chapter and CampJRA were presented with a check for $30,000. This represented theamount co'llected during the 2005-2006 year. <strong>Grand</strong> Patriarch,Craig Reinhart anJ Rebekah Assembly President, Doris Goerlitzwere very supporti ve <strong>of</strong>Camp JRA during their terms anJ with thedonationssent in by the <strong>Lodge</strong>s, we were able to support CampJRAin a big way. Cathy Benson, President <strong>of</strong>Eastern Chapter ArthritisFoundation expressed her appreciation to the group Clnd LaurenDarkes, also told the group how much Camp JRA has helped her.Lauren started out as a 10 year-old camper and is now a Counselorin-Training.She graduates from highschool ~n June and will attendKutztown University in September, majoring in Communications.They are grateful for all the IOOF efforts and appreciate ourinvolvement and support <strong>of</strong> the Arthritis Foundation.Thanks to all <strong>of</strong>you who have helped the PA IOOF ArthritisCommittee reach out and help those with arthritis.
