July 2007REBEKAH MAGAZINECENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA ARTHRITIS WALK 17On April 22, 2007, the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of theArthritis Foundation sponsored an "Arthritis Walk." This "Walk"was designed as a fund-raiser, and also, to raise awareness ofthe painand troubles that arthritis may cause to anyone. It was held inBoalsburg, Pa., at the Boalsburg Military Museum. This Museum isa part of a beautiful park, and in the spring of the year, it is a beautifulplace to be. The weather helped by staying sunny, with temperaturesin the high 70's.Ellie Trulick, Laura Homan, Danielle StephensTwo Rebekahs, Laura Homan and the Ellie Trulick, signed upto be part ofthis "Arthritis Walk," because that's what Rebekahs do.When they signed up at the registration desk, and mentioned thatthey were Rebekahs and part of the Independent Order of OddFellows, they were greeted as very special guests, because ofwhat ourorder does for The Arthritis Foundation.Danielle Stephens, the Director of Programs and Services, aCampJRA Counselor, and one beautiful person, introduced herself, and gave everyone a hug. Danielle also suffers from the pains ofArthritis. She introduced us to Rachel Albright, CommunityDevelopment Director, Catherine Penrod, President ofthe CentralPennsylvania Chapter, and a local girl from Reberburg, JanelleStover. J ,melle is presently a camper at CampJRA, and gave us somegreat conversation. All of this attention gave us a feeling of pride in being a partof this, and a feeling of accomplishment through the Odd Fellowsand Rebekahs. Remember; however, that there is a continuous needin this Foundation, and that our giving must not stop.Introductions, speeches, and stretching exercises preceded the"Walk." Everyone then moved out to the beautiful walkways oftheMilitary Museum, to walk their required distance. This seemed likea quiet and peaceful stroll, and a time for either conversations ofreflections. Before I end this article, I would be remiss if! failed to mentionEmily Shaphard. Emily is a beautiful little girl of eleven years, andshe was the mainspeakerat this event. Her words stole the show andmade an impression on everyone. The words below are her words, and the entire speech that she gave. I hope it moves you also.Danielle Stephens, Janelle Stover, Ellie Trulick"Arthritis Walk" Boalsberg Museum ParkDear Readers,FROM THE DESK OF THE GRAND SECRETARY By the time this Magazine is out the Sessions wiB becomplete.
