For Jesus, what makesthese people “poor” and “oppressed”is not only their social status, it is thereality and their awareness <strong>of</strong> theirabsolute dependence on God.Ultimately it was Jesus' adherence toscripture and his insistence that thesepromises were made to more thanjust the people in the room that<strong>of</strong>fended the crowd. It seemed a long time since wehad our last c<strong>of</strong>fee & chat inJuly. Robin Evans joined us and ishoping that he will be able to join uson a regular basis which will bewonderful. It was also good to seeour local CSO Steph Annette, whohasn't been able to get to ourmeetings for a long time. She brieflyoutlined some forthcoming changesin the local Policing organisation, butreassured us that it should not affectthe public or the support we get fromthe Police. She also warned us aboutthe "Nottingham Knockers" - a group<strong>of</strong> people knocking on doors andselling items from a holdall - if thesepeople visit you the Police would liketo know, so please ring them on thenon-emergency number 101.John Taylor then gave a short talk onthe next chapter <strong>of</strong> his Naval career,much <strong>of</strong> which was spent with theAustralian Naval MeteorologicalService. Many thanks again to Johnfor an entertaining and informativetalk.
