(b) four consecutive sessions as a part time candtoate.
A candidate for a graduate diploma or a 48 aedit point
masters degree may be registered for ttiat diploma or degree
for no more than:
(a) four consecutive sessions as a foil time candidate; or
(b) eight consecutive sessions as a part time candtoate.
A candtoate for a 72 or a 96 credit point masters degree may
be registered for that degree for no more than:
(a) six consecutive sessions as a foil time candidate; or
(b) twelve consecutive sessions as a part time
candtoate.
A candtoate for a 48 aedit point honours masters degree may
be registered for ttiat degree for
(a) no tess than two consecutive sessions, and no more
ttian four consecutive sessions as a foil time
candtoate; or
(b) no tess than three consecutive sessions, and no more
ttian eight consecutive sessions as a part time
candtoate.
A candidate for a 96 aedit point honours masters degree may
be registered for that degree for
(a) no tess tiian three consecutive sessions, and no more
ttian six consecutive sessions as a full time
candtoate; or
(b) no tess than five consecutive sessions, and no more
ttian twelve consecutive sessions as a part time
candtoate.
A candidate for a dodoral degree under Part 6 of ttiese Rules
by thesis may be registered for that degree for
(a) no less than four consecutive sessions, arto no more
ttian eight consecutive sessions as a foil time
candtoate; or
(b) no tess ttian six consecutive sessions, and no more
ttian twelve consecutive sessions as a part time
candtoate;
except that:

Refusal of Registration
a candtoate who, before registration, was
engaged upon approved sfody may be
exempted from not more than two sessions,
in spedal drcumstances, a candtoate may
be penmitted to devote nd more ttian ore
catendar year to study at another institution
provtoed that the woric shall be supervised in
an approved manner and
in exceptional cases, a candtoate may apply
to tie exempted from not more than two of the
sessions stipulated in Attachment A(8)(a) or
(b).
A candtoate may be refosed regisfration by reason of
(a) suspension from this University for a defined period;
or
(b) exdusion from this University for a defined periixt; or
(c) expulsion from this University.
A person who is:

suspended may be re-admitted to this University at
ttie condusion of the defined period of suspension;
excluded must apply for admission to this University
at the condusion ofthe period of exdusion shouto readmission
be sought; and
expelled shall not be re-admitted except by
penmission of Coundl.
(3) The period of suspension will comprise one or more sessions
and ttie remainder of ttie session in which ttie suspenston is
applted.
(4) The period of exdusion will comprise one or more years and
the remainder ofthe year in which the exdusion is applied.
(5) Any record of perfonmance issued by this University in
resped of a person refosed registration as prescribed in
Attachment B(1), shall indude detail of such suspension,
exdusion or expulsion.
CI. Supervision for Theses and Minor Theses
(1) A candtoate for an honours master degree by thesis, or by
coursewort< and either thesis or minor thesis, or for a dodoral
degree, shall carry out ttie thesis or minor thesis wort(
required for ttie research subjed under ttie diredion of a
supervisor or supen/isors, of whom at least one shall be a full
time member ofthe academic staff, appointed under approved
conditions.
(2) ShouW ttie supervisor be absent from the University for a
period exceeding six weeks, that supervisor shall recommend
an attemative supervisor to be appointed under approved
conditions for the period of absence.
