For the 15th consecutive year, the National Training Institute entitled New York Model<br />

for Batterer <strong>Program</strong>s was offered twice during the year. Additional presentations<br />

were made in Anaheim, CA and in Westchester and Orange Counties in New York.<br />

<strong>VCS</strong> staff organizes, facilitates or regularly attends a significant number of community<br />

efforts towards creating a zero tolerance for domestic violence including the following:<br />

the Spring Valley Collaborative; the Criminal Justice Sub-committees and the Men and<br />

Boys Sub-committee of the Rockland STOP FEAR Coalition.<br />

<strong>VCS</strong> expanded its collaboration with the Rockland Family Shelter and the Village of<br />

Spring Valley to conduct Court Improvement Training and domestic violence prevention<br />

supported by grants from the US Department of Justice. Additionally, <strong>VCS</strong> took<br />

on the responsibility of coordinating the Spring Valley Weed & Seed <strong>Program</strong>, another<br />

program funded by the US Department of Justice.<br />

LGBT Affirming Activities<br />

The 12th year of Gay Pride Rockland was<br />

celebrated during many events leading up to the<br />

all day annual event in June. Monthly community<br />

outreach and educational programs and social<br />

entertainment fundraising events were held to<br />

support the inclusion of LGBTQ individuals and<br />

families into the larger life of the community.<br />

These events included a Battle of the Bands,<br />

LGBT Comedy Night and with the Rockland<br />

Center for the Arts as a co-sponsor, a juried art<br />

exhibit and sale.<br />

Gay Pride Banner<br />

The 2010—2011 Directory of LGBT Friendly Businesses, Services and Community<br />

Organizations, a major resource for the LBGTQ community was once again a major<br />

publication thanks to our many sponsors and advertisers. As well as being in hard copy<br />

the directory is published on the website www.gaypriderockland.org. a carefully<br />

maintained venue that also provides on-going announcements and information<br />

throughout the year.<br />
