In 2010 the Student Advocate responded to 252 requests for information, referrals and
school advocacy. The program continues to exceed the funded caseload of 40 cases
even though there has been limited outreach and no increase in funding. Parents find
their way to this amazing resource and rate the program as very highly successful on
their parent satisfaction surveys.
VCS continued to administer the Surrogate Decision Making Committee for the New
York State Commission of Quality Care up until November. Along with Rockland
County, the VCS catchment areas included Westchester, Orange Sullivan, Bronx,
Manhattan and Richmond counties. VCS continues to process the highest caseload in
the state for mentally disabled clients in need of invasive medical and dental treatment
but who lack involved family to provide consent.
In 2010, 143 cases were processed.
