Born in Milford, Conn., Rusanowsky’s resume also includes television play-by-play work. In the motor sports world,he currently appears on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s “Race Week” program. He was a member of the San JoseGrand Prix’s closed circuit track telecast team, covering Champ Car, Toyota Atlantic, Trans-Am, U.S. Touring Car, HistoricStock Car, and Formula D action in front of more than 150,000 fans per year from 2005-07. He has called the actionon Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s coverage of Roller Hockey International telecasts, including the Oakland Skates andthe 1995 Murphy Cup Champion San Jose Rhinos. He was the TV voice of the now-defunct Continental Indoor SoccerLeague’s San Jose Grizzlies and worked the “CISL Game of the Week” for Prime Network. He also makes regularappearances on Sharks television features.Rusanowsky was injured in a serious automobile accident on Nov. 25, 2000, ending a continuous broadcast streakof Sharks regular season and playoff games at 774 (he has been behind the microphone for all 163 playoff games inSharks history). Rusanowsky called his historic 1,000th Sharks regular season game on March 21, 2004 vs. Edmonton.Along with his broadcasting duties, Rusanowsky makes numerous public speaking appearances in the <strong>com</strong>munity.He serves on the Executive Board of the Santa Clara County Council, Boy Scouts of America and serves on the AdvisoryBoards for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley and Services for Brain Injury. He has been the co-chair of theUltimate Fantasy Hockey Playoffs Draft, benefiting the Foundation Fighting Blindness. This event raised more than$450,000 over its history in San Jose. He also works with many other <strong>com</strong>munity organizations and is an active memberof the <strong>NHL</strong> Broadcaster’s Association.Before arriving in the Bay Area, Rusanowsky provided the radio play-by-play call for the American Hockey League’sNew Haven Nighthawks (1986-91) and was the voice of St. Lawrence University’s NCAA Division I hockey program from1979-86. Baker accentuates Dan Rusanowsky’s radio broadcastsin explaining the finer details of the game, drawing from his experience as a formerFNational National Hockey League player.Baker’s high-energy personality, enthusiasm and excellent knowledge of the <strong>NHL</strong> havegreatly enhanced Sharks radio broadcasts and his dedication to grassroots marketing have helped expand the evergrowingyouth hockey population in the Bay Area.Known for his speed, grit and tenacity as a player, Baker was always at his best when the game was on the line.Following an outstanding college career at St. Lawrence University, Baker went on to play in parts of 10 <strong>NHL</strong>seasons, including three with the Sharks (1993-96). In 404 <strong>NHL</strong> games with Quebec, Ottawa, San Jose and Toronto, hetallied 150 points (71 goals, 79 assists). Baker also appeared in 25 Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Sharks, postingnine points (five goals, four assists) and 42 PIM.He’s still recognized for scoring what has been called the biggest goal in Sharks franchise history. As a memberof the 1993-94 Sharks, a team just one year removed from an <strong>NHL</strong>-record 71 losses, the team posted the largestturnaround in <strong>NHL</strong> history the following season, improving by 58 points and earning a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.As the No. 8 seed, the team drew the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Detroit Red Wings. Baker scored the game-winning,series-clinching goal in Game 7 against Chris Osgood, allowing the Sharks to be<strong>com</strong>e the first eighth-seeded <strong>NHL</strong> teamto defeat a No. 1 seed.
