Pizza Reward Party
As a reward for the girls’ excellent achievements and hard
work this season they were treated to a trip to Pizza Hut,
Greenwich to celebrate. All the girls thoroughly enjoyed
themselves.
Lucy Statham said, “I really enjoyed the trip to Pizza Hut. It
was a lovely day. Thank you Miss Mann!”
Charlotte Reed said, “It was a great opportunity to celebrate
our recent win in a tournament!”
Tilly-Star Austin-Walker said, “We enjoyed the trip very much
and would love to go again. We are very grateful to the
teachers who helped make this happen.”
Mia Hando said, “It was a lovely way to reward us for our
hard work! Thank you so much! It was awesome.”
Arsenal Vs Chelsea
20 Year 7 and 8 students visited Stamford Bridge and 30
students visited Emirates Stadium in January. The students
who were selected represented the school in football or were
role models in their PE lessons. Throughout the day we
learnt about the club’s history and stadium design, but more
importantly we got to visit the changing rooms and sat on
the bench just like Chelsea’s Fernando Torres! The students
were extremely excited in the experience and many of them
will be using this knowledge in studying GCSE PE in the
future. These trips are offered every January to Year 7 and
8 but you must take part in school fixtures or be a role model
in lessons to be selected.
Testing Out The Copper
Box
24 Students were chosen to take part in a vast array of
sports to test out the Olympic Handball Copper box. Other
Greenwich schools only gained 4-8 places, but we worked
our magic and were given four times our original allocation!
Once in the venue, the students took part in dance, judo,
indoor athletics, indoor rowing, tennis, handball, table tennis
and some strange events such as bottom shuffling! All
students were given a free t-shirt and water bottle and were
chosen based on their commitment in lessons.
Sainsbury’s Vouchers
Many thanks go out to all the tutor groups who collected
vouchers to help the PE department this year. This year
was a little disappointing as Sainsbury’s decided to reduce
the length of time that vouchers were available, which put
a serious dent in our collecting potential. However, we
collected just over 5,500. The best collecting tutor groups
were Mr Merrigan’s with 447 in Year 7, Miss Begum’s
with 269 in Year 8 and Mr Woods’ with 478 in Year 9. The
vouchers have been spent on new footballs for September
games lessons. Once again, thanks to all the students and
staff who collected vouchers.
Wheelchair Rugby Test
Event
On Thursday 19th April Lisa Mei and I (Year 8) and a
member of the London 2012 Construction Crew Project
went along to the Basketball Arena on the Olympic Park to
check out the facilities and to watch the Wheelchair Rugby
Test Event. The first match was between Great Britain and
Australia. This was a close match and very physical. We
had the opportunity to see Andy Barrow, who lives in the
Royal Borough of Greenwich, play for Team GB. Wheelchair
Rugby is also known as ‘Murderball’. Between matches we
had the opportunity to attend a talk and Q&A session with a
coach from the Great Britain Team. We then went back into
the arena to watch the second match of the day which was
Sweden vs Canada.
Year 7 and 8 Cricket
The cricket season started in fine fashion with promising
numbers attending training for both Year 7 and 8. Team
selection was very difficult for Mr Cater (Year 7) and Mr
Merridan (Year 8) and therefore had to organise a trial match
against each other to view all potential Kevin Pietersens
and Jimmy Andersons. Both teams compete in the local
Greenwich schools league playing Eltham Green, Blackheath
and Bluecoats and Crown Woods. However, due to a typical
English summer, recent matches have been cancelled.
Standout performances have come from Alec Harris, Isaac
Law and Felix Trevithick (Year 7) and Oscar Greaves (Year
8).
