IM is a set of integrated management processes and services that enable or allowinformation producers and consumers to store, locate, retrieve, and transfer the rightinformation, in the right form and of adequate quality, by the most timely, effective, andefficient means in a manner consistent with the Commander's mission.PRINCIPLES308. The management of information quality requires a shared concern and pride amonginformation producers and consumers at all levels of Command. The following principlesguide best practice in this respect:a. Relevance – The information should be of sufficient value that it influences theplan or mission (i.e. the information should address the real needs of the user.);b. Accessibility – Information has multiple, even simultaneous uses. Therefore,information should be available to all people that have a legitimate need toknow;c. Accountability – Individuals are responsible for protecting the confidentialityand integrity of any information they create, utilize, receive, store, or send;d. Integrity – Information must be accurate and complete, and requires protectionfrom unauthorised, unanticipated or unintentional modifications;e. Clarity – Information should be presented to users in a way that they canunderstand, properly use, and analyse;f. Timeliness - Information is inexhaustible, but its value may perish with time.Rarely is information of value if it is out-of-date or reaches the decision-makerlate. Timeliness is typically involved in a trade-off against accuracy. Thetimeliness of information will also influence its relevance; andUncontrolled copy when printedg. Consistency – Values and definitions of data must be maintained consistently toensure that information is understood in the same way when shared e.g. distanceshould be consistently stated in miles, nautical miles, or kilometers, dependantupon the information domain.
