Stable incomebuilds strong families.IncomeAffordable Housing Goal:Increase the number of affordable housing units andthe supportive services that promote housing stabilityFinancial Self-Sufficiency Goal:Increase economic self-sufficiency for economicallydistressedindividuals and familiesUnited Way of Pierce County recognizes that a stable home and financial self-sufficiency are key to helping a familythrive. In 2012, United Way invested in Habitat for Humanity’s Woods at Golden Givens, a 30-home residentialcommunity complete with a shared community center and play area. United Way also provided funding for thePierce County Youth and Young Advisory Council, a CampFire USA programe aimed at supporting youth and youngadults experiencing or at risk for homelessness. Additionally, United Way of Pierce County continued to fund ProjectHomeless Connect, connecting over 1,500 people experiencing homelessness to other important services. Theevent provides services such as haircuts and health screenings and is supported by 60 local agencies and over 600volunteers. United Way of Pierce County also funded 17 programs addressing housing and financial self-sufficiencyas part of the Community Solutions Fund.13
