Everyyear a Strategic Energy ManagementPlan is developed for the district. Thecurrent plan, adopted in November2009, aims at reducing electricityconsumption by 3 percent.It doesn’t sound like much, butnudging the dial even slightly takes ahuge amount of education. It’s worththe effort, though.Langley School District earns creditsfor its reductions of energy usage, andthe district must achieve a minimumnumber of credits to maintain itsPowerSmart status with BC Hydro.That’s important. Said Debby,“Without this status we are not eligiblefor incentive funding. Incentivefunding is a significant part in ourability to complete projects.”What kind of projects? Two schoolsin Langley have solar water heatingsystems that help reduce natural gasconsumption, for example. Those18 Student Success

If electrical consumption is not reduced, it maymean creating a new dam.
