You can check your son’sacademic progress on the interim term 3 reports. I would also like to remind you that itis very important that you book an interview time with teachers for the parent-teacherinterviews that will be held next term in week 2.It is undeniable that parents’ role in their children’s success is extremely important.Our parents are encouraged to contact teachers without wasting any time if there is aproblem about their son.I would also like to remind our parents to support and motivate our students now thatVCE exams are fast approaching. Your support will boost our university candidates’self-esteem. During the first week of this term holiday our year 12 students will have a5 day study program. We need to encourage our students to participate in this programas it will be probably one of the last intense study opportunities for our students beforethey sit the actual VCE exams.Our aid appeal for Africa that we started in the last week of Ramadan is stillcontinuing. I am pleased to announce that we have collected more than $10.000 withthe help of our parents, students and teachers. This is a special week aswe celebrate books and authors . Staff and students were involved in activities ranging from readingbooks in their classes to creating posters and book marks to celebrate the occasion.A book review competition was also conducted allowing students to write reviews of books they haveread and submit them into the competition. There were many great entries from students and it wasencouraging to see them get involved. The winner of the competition was Muhammed Yelegin from10C who received a thirty dollar gift voucher from JB Hi-Fi for his book review of ‘SkullduggeryPleasant’ which he claimed was ‘bucket loads’ of fun to read because of its combination of comedyand mystery.Thank you to all of the students who entered and all of those who were involved in celebrating BookWeek.Mr Michael KulkewyczThe GoldenGeneration3www.isikcollege.vic.edu.au


<strong>ISIK</strong> COLLEGE MEADOW FAIR CAMPUS NEWSLETTERAugust 2011Year 7 Parents’ IftarWelcome Ramadan,On Tuesday the 9 th of August 2011 Year Seven students and parents were invited to have an Iftardinner at Isik <strong>College</strong>. On this special occasion, parents bought in food and shared it with others.Hence, students provided assistance to teachers in preparing tables, chairs and bench tops.There was a variety of food from rice, meat, salads, pastry to sweets which was enjoyed by all.This was a good opportunity for teachers to meet parents and build on relationships. The Iftarcommenced with a presentation of welcoming Ramadan followed by the Adhan. Hume i-tech ChallengeThe Hume i-tech Challenge is an annual competition for year 7-10 students (or equivalent)studying at a Hume City school.It is sponsored by Selimiye foundation, <strong>ISIK</strong> <strong>College</strong> and Hume City Council.Students that demonstrate the most creative and effective use of mixed multimediahave the chance to win from a cash prize pool of over $5000.It is open to year 7-10 (or equivalent) students, studying at a Hume City school,who have an interest in multimedia and new media.Depending on the year level, students can get involved by producing a projectfrom one of the two categories below:Category 1Digital Story-TellingFor year 7 & 8 studentsProduce a digital story on a topic of yourchoice using any multimedia tool youhave access to.Category 2Website DesignFor year 9 & 10 studentsCreate and design a website on a topic ofyour choice using any web tool you haveaccess to.The Hume i-tech Challenge aims to:Enhance students’ computer skills and creativity.Promote stronger community links.Bring together students from the Hume region to share learning.Promote student-teacher relationships.Enable students to achieve Information Communication Technology (ICT) relatedgoals.Encourage students to have fun while learning.In 2011 <strong>ISIK</strong> <strong>College</strong> contributed entries to both Categories from theMeadowfair campus (4 entries, two in each category) and the Eastmeadows campus (one entry ineach category).The entries were submitted on time and the oral presentation took place on Wednesday 7 th of September2011 at the Hume Global Village, Broadmeadows.The principal Mr. Ilker Temizkan , Deputy principal Mr. Kadir Emniyet and guest teacher Mr. EzioPaciocco were kind enough to attend the eve before the oral presentation day and gave the students ataste of what to expect from the judging panel. There was also tea and a variety of sweets.During our meal a video about the students at our Pastoral Care Camps was shown. While watchingthe video the sight of parents and their children together made me feel happy.After we finished our meal, we went to the prayer room and prayed Magrib Prayer.
