I’d like to thank Mr Mustafa Oz, for all his timeand technology support. Semester reports are distributedtwice per year, during mid and end of year periods. It isthe expectation of the Department of Education that allschools report against the Victorian Essential LearningStandards (VELS) using the A-E scale in all the LearningAreas.Semester One reports will be out on distribution on Friday26 th June from 9.30am until 12.30pm. Reports will only begiven to parents, not students or older siblings. Uncollectedreports will be posted home to families. The Swine flu has indeed become sensationalised in recenttimes. However, the Victorian government is now in the‘sustain’ phase, which means that quarantines will no longertake place in schools if any cases are confirmed. Studentswho are feeling unwell should remain home and seek medicalattention. If your child becomes ill at school, we will contactyou immediately and ask you to collect your child. Please make sure that we have up-to-date contact andemergency contact details. Finally, good general hygieneremains the best defence against the flu. Thank you to MrsUzuncakmak, a parent naturopath, for providing samples ofgoodies for our classrooms.Recently, I was browsing and sorting the online digital photosnetwork and I was only too happy to see how much oursports programs have developed. The new PMP equipmentpurchased last year has been much needed. The interschoolsports program over the last few years have been atremendous success thanks to the coordination of Ms Cilek(and Mrs Tasci this year) as well as our resident coach MrYilmaz. We are all excited to have our annual AthleticsCarnival next term. If you have a love of sports and sometime to help volunteer in training, please see Ms Cilek orMrs Tasci.A couple of incidents have been reported to our administrationwhere families have crossed the roads unsafely. Thelollypop lady and our guard keeper, Hasan bey are here toassist students and families during peak hours. Crossing atother locations other than the school crossing point is verydangerous and will endanger your child’s well-being. I askyour support in leading by example at all times.Have a safe and happy holidays.Ms Evla HanPS– Ooops ! The Prep Entrance Exam date is on Sunday17th (not 19th) July. In each of these settingsa child will be exposed to factors that will shape hisor her development in positive or other ways.Parents can encourage confidence, resilience and positivebehaviour in their child by:• encouraging good behaviour• listening, asking and communicating with theirchild.• seeking advice from your child’s teacher or aprofessional.• encourage friendships – school friends, familyand neighbours.• encourage independence- teach them problemsolving and organization skills• encourage your child to get involved in a sportclub or group.• maintain a routine- this will reduce stress anddevelop self-discipline.• provide supervision- children need to know theyare safe.• be consistent- if your child know what you expectof them, they will feel safe.Next tern our unit of work will be the Weather unit. The Californian King Snake was cold totouch and the tiny monkey called “BabyFace” was very playful despite her age of27 years (this equates to 90 humanyears). It was an opportunity for the studentsto acquaint themselves with Melbourne and its surrounds. Although itwas quite foggy and the weather wasn’t perfect for viewing it did notdampen our spirits. The students had a good time sipping hot chocolatewhile they waited for the fog to clear up and managed to get a glimpse ofwhat lay beneath and some of the buildings within close proximity.RIALTO TOWERS TRIVIAThe Observation Deck was opened to the public on July 20 1994.There are 1254 stairs to the Observation Deck. The Rialto soars 253 metres (823 ft).The Towers standon 75 huge concretecaissons(legs) attached torock 20m belowthe building. If a kilogramblock wasdropped from theroof it would take7.9 seconds to hitthe ground at250kph.It takes approximately40 secondsto reachLevel 55 in ourfast lifts.
