DANCE WORKSHOP – The Crimson Coast Dance Society is presenting a special<br />

dance workshop for teachers on Wednesday, <strong>May</strong> 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Wellington<br />

Secondary Multi-Purpose Room.<br />

This workshop will offer ways of bringing creative movement into the classroom and will<br />

include sections for use in the classroom and in physical education classes. There will be<br />

creative physical exercises that can be adjusted to age level and tools to use in building<br />

your own exercises.<br />

Cost for the workshop is $25. Register in advance by calling 250 716-3230.<br />

GARAGE SALE CANCELLED – Please note that Brechin Elementary’s garage sale,<br />

scheduled for Saturday, <strong>May</strong> 8 has been cancelled.<br />

VOLUNTEERS – The Canadian Masters Long Course Swimming Championships will<br />

be held in Nanaimo over the long weekend, <strong>May</strong> 21-24. The organizing committee is<br />

expecting 600 swimmers from across Canada, the United States, and England.<br />

There will be 150 volunteers from Vancouver Island swim clubs on hand to help, but the<br />

organizing committee is hoping that some school district employees might also be<br />

� The CUPE Secretaries’ Retirement party will be held on Thursday, <strong>May</strong> 27<br />

in the Arbutus Room at Vancouver Island University from 4 to 6 p.m. This<br />

year retirees include Lynda Burnett, Gina Dreger, Leona Uniat, Renee<br />

Rapton, Maria Bloedorn, Wendy Bechdholt, and Brenda Morris. Tickets<br />

are $25. Please make cheques payable to <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>68</strong> and send to<br />

Anette Hjort at Fairview Community <strong>School</strong>.


� Come celebrate and reminisce with Hammond Bay staff at Antoinette<br />

Spoor’s Retirement Par‘Tea’ on <strong>Tuesday</strong>, June 1 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at<br />

Hammond Bay <strong>School</strong>.<br />

� CUPE will honour retiring members at the CUPE retirement tea on Sunday,<br />

June 6 at the German Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. Contact Stella Robinson at 250<br />

� The NDTA Retirement Banquet will be held on Friday, June 11 at the Coast<br />

Bastion Hotel. Cocktails at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m. with presentations to<br />

� Friends and colleagues are invited to join in the celebration of Marie Harel’s<br />

retirement on Saturday, June 12 between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the<br />

Clubhouse at the Longwood Condos located on Uplands Road. There will be<br />

live music and lots of fun! Park at Thrifty Foods in the Longwood Station<br />

and enter via the gate to the condos, behind Thrifty’s store. BYOB and a<br />

small appy/finger food to share if you want.<br />

� The Board of Education will honour staff members who retire during the<br />

2009-10 school year at a dinner on Thursday, June 17 at the Nanaimo Golf<br />

� Join Park Avenue staff at a retirement celebration for Cindy Stanley on<br />

Wednesday, June 23 at Piper’s Pub at 3:30 p.m. There will be an open<br />

mike, if you would like to share your stories. In lieu of gifts, donations for a<br />

bursary in Cindy’s name can be forwarded to Erin van Steen, Nanaimo<br />

Ladysmith <strong>School</strong>s Foundation. Income tax receipts will be issued.<br />
