The Hospital Medicine SIG is for anyone interested in caring for inpatients. The<br />
meeting will provide updates related to ongoing projects in quality improvement<br />
(VIP network), research (PRIS network), education (PHM Roundtable) and<br />
practice management (STP Committee). Facilitated breakout sessions will<br />
allow attendees to have input in direction of these efforts. Ideas for a possible<br />
Topic Symposium or Mini Course sponsored by the SIG for PAS 2012 will<br />
be discussed. In addition, a workshop in a topic related to academics in the<br />
career of the hospitalist will be conducted. Our annual Hospital Medicine poster<br />
session will be included.<br />

in the disaster stricken and low-income countries. The audience will have<br />
an opportunity to hear the winners of the APA International Health Award<br />
discussing the state of health care in their countries. The program will conclude<br />
with the APA International Health SIG business meeting.<br />

Target Audience: Scientists and clinicians involved in health services and<br />
public health, clinicians interested in partnering with their community to<br />
improve wide-scale health outcomes, CTSA and non-CTSA sites interested in<br />
the rigorous conduct of community engaged research.<br />
Objective:<br />
- To understand novel methods that can be used in community-engaged<br />
research, practical examples of community-engaged research, community<br />
level translation of research to improve health outcomes, and how to utilize<br />
the CTSA consortium to conduct this type of research<br />

Community-engaged research depends on innovative partnerships between<br />
researchers and diverse community partners to conduct high quality research<br />
that has significant impact on improving the health of the public. The NIHfunded<br />
CTSA Consortium has led to the development of enhanced strategies to<br />
conduct community engaged research. This topic symposium will highlight the<br />
use of novel methods and their associated health outcomes.<br />
Dr. Aguilar-Gaxiola co-chairs the CTSA consortium committee that promotes<br />
community-engaged research. His presentation will provide examples of this<br />
