Brune Park Community School - Welcome GuideThe Information CentreThe Information Centre holds 13,000books, both fiction and non-fiction,story tapes/CDs and other resources suchas DVDs.The Information Centre is open during termtime from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday toThursday or until 3pm on Friday.There are two computer suites, eachcontaining 30 PCs with access to a varietyof software, and the internet.All Year 7, 8 and 9 students take part inAccelerated Reader – quizzing books theyhave read to earn certificates and VIVOs.The VIVO shop is open every Friday duringsecond break. (See the Rewards page formore information about VIVO).Students may borrow three books or storyCDs for a period of two weeks.No overdue fines are charged for theseitems, but we do ask for a replacement, orthe replacement cost if the items are lost.All students may use the Centre every dayfrom 8.00am to 8.20am before school andfrom 2.30pm to 4.00pm after school. Brune Park Community School - Welcome GuideThe School CampusCan my child cycle to school?Yes, but all cyclists must dismount and pushtheir bike on site. A number of enclosedcycle compound spaces are availablefor cycles.Students must lock their bike in the cyclecompound.Can I bring my child to school by car?The start and end of the school day are verybusy on Military Road. If at all possibleplease encourage your child to ride or walkto school.If you are bringing your child to school,or picking them up at the end of the day,please drop and pick up your child outsidethe school gates.Can my child bring personal posessionsto school?Nothing should be brought to school whichcould be a danger or nuisance to others orprevent them from learning. We will notaccept liability for the loss or damage topersonal belongings.Can my child bring a mobile phone to school?They are allowed in school but must beswitched off and in your child’s bag between8.30am and 2.30pm. The school doesnot accept responsibility for theft, loss ordamage to mobile phones or other devices.They can be used outside at the two breaksresponsibly. Mobile phones will be removedfrom students if they are being usedbetween the hours of 8.30am and 2.30pmin buildings or in lessons.What happens if my child loses something?It is essential to mark all your child’sbelongings and kit with his or her name.Any lost property will be handed into‘The Hub’ for collection.Lost P.E. kit can be claimed from the P.E.Department.What equipment does my child need?Essential writing equipment: Pencil, black/blue pen, spare pen, ruler, rubber, pencilsharpener, coloured pens/pencils.Useful equipment to have: Englishdictionary, French/Spanish dictionary,calculator.
