What we remember are numeroustragic events which the Jewish people haveexperienced over the course of history.1. 586 BCE - The First Holy Temple inJerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians.2. 70 CE - The Second Holy Temple inJerusalem was destroyed by the Romans.3. 135 CE - Betar, the last fortress to hold outagainst the Romans during the Bar Kochbarevolt fell, sealing the fate of the Jewishpeople.4. 1492 - King Ferdinand of Spain issued theexpulsion decree, setting Tisha B'Av as thefinal date by which not a single Jew would beallowed to walk on Spanish soil.5. World War I – which began the downwardslide to the Holocaust – began on Tisha B’Av.Tisha B’Av is a fast day, and is the only fast ofthe year other than Yom Kippur on which theduration of the fast is sundown to sundown.
