ArtworksArtist EvolutionContemporary Artist Lara Campiglia’s Latest Painting CollectionStory by Carissa Chesanek I Photos courtesy of Lara CampigliaLara Campiglia is known for her colorful vision and painterlyscenery that captivates her audience with its vibrant, crafty appeal.Real life emotions and everyday life inspire her creativity, as hercontemporary paintings not only are visually brilliant to look at, butalso relates to human beings and the environment they are in.Art wasn’t the only interest in this painter’s mind. Before conquering the artworld artist realm, she held a successful business career for 15 years withinreal estate and construction industries in Montevideo, Uruguay. In theearly 90’s, Campiglia began working with art at various art shops, whicheventually led her to making it more of a full time gig in 2008, and thencompletely changed her career from business to art in 2010, where she isstill very passionate about today. Her latest collection, “City from the Sky” revolves around people and thebalance of nature, such as a “story that begins on earth as a result of thehuman evolution,” Campiglia stated. The first set of paintings were madehere while she was in Miami last year, and the second set were created inUruguay when she returned home.“Sometimes humans act in harmony with our planet, and sometimes weinvade with no mercy,” she said. “But what prevails is the hope for harmonythat can be seen in some of my works such as raising the doubt if it was acoherent placement of those numbers in the canvas, which later on mightbecome a town, a factory, or a playground.”Sometimes humans act“ in harmony with our planet, and sometimes we invadewith no mercy.”This type of thinking hasn’t just come out of nowhere either. Campiglia hasfelt that her art is a form of communication between human beings, whichfundamentally makes it so powerful. “The creative process begins with thecommunication in the language of colors and shapes, the freedom thatallows us to open doors to the intuition and belief that “we are directly connectedwith the universe,” she said. We can communicate not only throughwords but also using other tools on a work of art.”The “City from the Sky” series was recently displayed at the Zorrilla de SanMartin Museum in Uruguay, last April. She will now showcase her series herein Miami this summer. Campiglia was invited to be part of the InternationalBiennale Artists at the L.M.N.T. Gallery in Wynwood, where three pieces fromher latest series, “City from the Sky” will be on display from Thursday, June7 through Tuesday, June 26. ◆22 Design District
