The benches have nowbeen installed and the residents are verypleased with their new seating. In additionto this, Contour Homes have alsodonated some more plants and hangingbaskets to the scheme, so that they cannow sit back and enjoy their hard work!The Hollinwood Work Club is run by ContourHomes, it is a joint project with Oldham libraries,Regenda First and Hollinwood Children’s Centre.The Club helps people to gain confidence, learncomputer skills, complete application forms, completeCV’s, learn interview techniques, and is a place wherejob seekers can help and support each other – so far,26 people have successfully found employment.Residents␣with␣their␣new␣Benches
Time Banking Scheme at HattersleyThe Hattersely Neighbourhood Partnership has been gettinginvolved in a new timebanking scheme, that is designed tohelp people to swap skills and services, without using money.This is an exciting scheme that enables people to takeadvantage of the skills available in their local community.With Time Banking you can get someone to wash your car,do some ironing or even give you sports lessons for FREE!All that is asked is that you give a small amount of your time,to someone else who needs it.Everyone has a skill that is needed by someone else. Justchoose something that you really like to do, such as baking orgardening, and every single hour that you give earns you atime credit. You can either spend these credits yourself ordonate them to someone else.Anyone, of any age, background and skill can join the TimeBank. The list of skills that are required is endless and it isalways worth asking if you need something done to see ifthere is someone with the skills to meet your needs.By joining, you will meet more people in your community andbe part of a productive and friendly service.What’s the catch?There is no catch, all you have to do is give time and spendtime, give time when you can and spend time as you need it.Who organises Time Banking?Time Brokers are employed by Volunteer Centre Tameside tocoordinate the project. They keep records of members andtheir skills and help to match them to requests for time swaps.How do I join?Contact the Volunteer Centre Tameside to have an informal chatand find out more information about when the next meeting willbe held in Hattersley. Funding was awarded from theBig Lottery for the project after a voting campaign wassuccessful. The funding (£9,741) has paid forphotography and IT equipment such as laptops,cameras, a video camera, projector screen. It is hopedthat the equipment will increase usage of the Avenuesand Hollins Community Hall. The funding also paid for aninitial 6 week course for 12 residents.
