With c<strong>on</strong>sultati<strong>on</strong>s of expertsthe terms and c<strong>on</strong>cepts were replaced with simpler syn<strong>on</strong>ymsand translati<strong>on</strong> of questi<strong>on</strong>s were edited.Based <strong>on</strong> the pre-test study results, the f<strong>in</strong>al questi<strong>on</strong>nairewas elaborated. 5Data Collecti<strong>on</strong> ActivitiesSelecti<strong>on</strong> and Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of Field Teams: For the fieldwork 89 ACT field workers received 9-day tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g as <strong>in</strong>terviewers.The group of tra<strong>in</strong>ees <strong>in</strong>cluded 79 <strong>in</strong>terviewers,n<strong>in</strong>e regi<strong>on</strong>al supervisors and two fieldwork coord<strong>in</strong>ators.Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g was carried out by five academic staffof CSS and four ACT representatives. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g wasseparately provided <strong>in</strong> two different places: <strong>in</strong> Kutaisi forthe <strong>in</strong>terviewers of West Georgia fieldwork and <strong>in</strong> Tbilisifor East Georgia fieldwork staff.Each tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g sessi<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>sisted of four modules: <strong>in</strong>troducti<strong>on</strong>to gender and gender-related issues, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>gelaborate sessi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> domestic violence; questi<strong>on</strong>naire/survey <strong>in</strong>struments familiariz<strong>in</strong>g and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, sampl<strong>in</strong>gand field activities, ethics of fieldwork, practical exercise.The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g educated the <strong>in</strong>terviewers about thetheory and philosophy of gender-based violence as wellas equipped them with practical skills to c<strong>on</strong>duct <strong>in</strong>terviews<strong>on</strong> this extremely sensitive issue <strong>in</strong> accordancewith the ethics of the research, respect<strong>in</strong>g women withoutputt<strong>in</strong>g them <strong>in</strong> risk.A fieldwork manual was developed that <strong>in</strong>cluded po<strong>in</strong>tsto c<strong>on</strong>sider dur<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>terview, general rules regard<strong>in</strong>gthe questi<strong>on</strong>naire and directi<strong>on</strong>s regard<strong>in</strong>g questi<strong>on</strong>s.Another part of the manual was for the organizati<strong>on</strong> offield work and supervis<strong>in</strong>g.Field work strategyAccord<strong>in</strong>g to the WHO methodology and specificati<strong>on</strong>sof the study, ACT designed an orig<strong>in</strong>al field work plan. Adiversified approach was elaborated for Tbilisi, regi<strong>on</strong>alcities and village areas:(1) Tbilisi - Dur<strong>in</strong>g the first week of fieldwork <strong>in</strong> Tbilisi,<strong>on</strong>e supervisor and two questi<strong>on</strong>naire revisi<strong>on</strong> specialistsattended <strong>in</strong>terviews <strong>in</strong> order to revise questi<strong>on</strong>naires<strong>on</strong> the spot. From the sec<strong>on</strong>d week completedquesti<strong>on</strong>naires were brought to ACT’s Tbilisi office at theend of each day, where revisi<strong>on</strong> specialists together witha coord<strong>in</strong>ator scrut<strong>in</strong>ized completed questi<strong>on</strong>naires. Incase of any <strong>in</strong>accuracy <strong>in</strong> the completed questi<strong>on</strong>naires,the <strong>in</strong>terviewers had to <strong>in</strong>terview the same resp<strong>on</strong>dentsrepeatedly sec<strong>on</strong>d time.(2) Regi<strong>on</strong>al cities / towns – In regi<strong>on</strong>al cities/towns,completed questi<strong>on</strong>naires were brought to regi<strong>on</strong>al officesat the end of each day of fieldwork, where regi<strong>on</strong>alsupervisors were revis<strong>in</strong>g them. In case of any <strong>in</strong>accuracy<strong>in</strong> the completed questi<strong>on</strong>naires, <strong>in</strong>terviewers wereto <strong>in</strong>terview the same resp<strong>on</strong>dents aga<strong>in</strong>.(3) Villages - Fieldwork <strong>in</strong> villages was c<strong>on</strong>ducted withrented cars. Regi<strong>on</strong>al supervisors accompanied each <strong>in</strong>terviewer<strong>in</strong> the field and revised questi<strong>on</strong>naires <strong>on</strong> thespot.Field work quality c<strong>on</strong>trolmethodologyThe quality c<strong>on</strong>trol group was comprised of experiencedand tra<strong>in</strong>ed ACT staff. Members of the quality c<strong>on</strong>trolgroup were given detailed <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> about <strong>in</strong>terviewers’routes and, accord<strong>in</strong>g to the random sampl<strong>in</strong>g, visitedspecific address to check the validity of the <strong>in</strong>terviewand the c<strong>on</strong>sistency of the <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> obta<strong>in</strong>ed fromthe resp<strong>on</strong>dent.Only after comparis<strong>on</strong> of quality c<strong>on</strong>trol results and theorig<strong>in</strong>al questi<strong>on</strong>naire were data entered to the database.Implementati<strong>on</strong> of fieldworkactivities with<strong>in</strong> thequantitative comp<strong>on</strong>entIn the framework of the quantitative survey 5,077 addresseswere visited <strong>in</strong> total.
