It is a real "howto" for absolute beginners. Students learnbasic drawing techniques chosen to traintheir perceptions and enhance theirhand-eye coordination. They will learnhow to compose a drawing; identify therange of values in objects they draw; useshading to give their subjects volume;observe and draw a "negative spacecomposition" and use "sighting" to workout relative sizes and angles. Projectsthat are planned include two still lifearrangements, a hand portrait and possiblya self-portrait among others. Studentsshould bring $25 to the first lesson forart materials, which will be provided bythe instructor.Rina Goldhagen(GRHS) (5) Tuesdays, 8-<strong>10</strong> p.m. Oct. 2-30Beginning Portrait Drawing$75 (M) *$25Students will be given an overview of thegeneral proportions of the face and ageneric breakdown of each structure (eyes,nose, mouth, ears.) The instructor willreview the concepts of line, value and relativeproportion as these elements are critical tothe successful completion of the project.Working from a photograph supplied bythe student, the student will be taught touse simple tools to create a realistic portraitin pencil.
