<strong>Patrol</strong>ling The KitchenSpaghetti Supper, Toys Brighten HolidaysBy Sgt. Collin M. Stosberg, Troop AOn Friday, December 16, 2011,Missouri and Kansas state trooperscooked a tasty spaghetti dinner forthe temporary residents of the RonaldMcDonald House in Kansas City, MO.Families stay at the house while theirchildren undergo medical treatment inthe KC area—sometimes for monthsat a time. Approximately 80 peopleenjoyed spaghetti that evening. Thetroopers, their families, and other <strong>Patrol</strong>employees helped with this event.The spaghetti supper was anextension of the 9th Annual TrooperMichael Newton ToyDrive. It’s the first yearthe group provided ameal in conjunctionwith delivering toys.Tpr. Newton’s parents,Bobbie and Garry, andhis son, Tyler, 13, werethere and did a lot ofthe cooking. The volunteersalso distributedthe toys they’d collectedduring the toy drive tothe kids in the house. Itwas a very heartwarmingexperience, andthe Ronald McDonaldHouse welcomed theextra effort. CEO Holly Buckendahlwas very appreciative and impressedwith the effort this year.The group also delivers toys tochildren at Children’s Mercy Hospitaland the Kansas University MedicalCenter. This annual event is the resultof the efforts of the Missouri <strong>State</strong><strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Patrol</strong> Troop A, Kansas<strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Patrol</strong>, and Krispy KremeDoughnuts. It was a great cause anda great way to remember our trooper,Michael L. Mike Newton, who gavethe ultimate sacrifice.A sign greeted thegroup that arrivedto cook and delivertoys.
