But for Paul and Aggie Evans,Yuma is a boom town, with a population of 82,000, whereeconomic vitality is alive and the population of this thirdlargest city in Arizona is diverse and welcoming.For many years the couple came toYuma, on the border with Californiaand Mexico, in the winter months tovacation in the foothills and to enjoy thedesert flowers, the pristine environment andthe fresh air. About a year ago, they decidedto move here permanently and one of thefirst things they did was to purchase anexisting self-service laundry in east Yuma at11411 Fortuna Road that was in need of aserious makeover.“We immediately saw the potential inthe location,” said Aggie. “It was old, dirtyand equipped with washers and dryers thatwere nearing 20 years old.” Some of themworked, some of them didn’t. Even so,during the busy winter tourist months, theself-service laundry was packing them in tothe extent that people were standing in lineto use the equipment.The Evans’ were somewhat familiar withself-service laundry operations, since theyhad owned a retail RV/park/campground/convenience store combination in Utah3
