USA & CANADA 735-OJ-111 USA & CANADA
Shark Shoal Shanty Antiques, Powells Point. YRU 70 is parked beside the antiques store with fire engines, boats,
etc., for company. It is in a white colour scheme with pale blue wheels, mudguards and two bands between the
decks.
Smith, Beaufort. Harvey Ward Smith bought NVX 311 from Schwartz & Co (Grain) Ltd., in 1965, for a total cost,
including shipping, of £1133.19s.10d !! The Ocean Bill of Lading definitely lists the owner as Harvey Smith, and
it may well have been imported through the port of Wilmington, NC, where it may have been filmed, giving rise to
earlier claims of ownership by a film company. Harvey Smith was the owner of a successful local fish business;
for many years he ran the bus in Shriners parades and stored it for the rest of the yearin his fish factory. After
Mr. Smith’s death in 1978 his widow gave the bus to the Beaufort Historical Association.
u/k, Greensboro (see OJ1997-203/4). We eventually found the “yard” which turned out to be a grassy area beside
a small old factory unit at 308 Victor Place, Greensboro. The three buses are parked in a row behind one
another and in the shelter of trees beyond. All three had been served with Notices of Violation, on 14/12/99 by
the Authorities, stating that if they were not removed by 21/12/99, they would be towed to a place of storage -
needless to say, they were still present on 28 th August 2000! They have been here at least ten years now and
are rather weather-worn and deserted! All three had been gutted on both decks; HLX 167 and NXP 992 had
been fitted with crude wooden doors to the platforms and the lower decks filled with wheels and seat frames.
LYR 763 did not have any platform door, and the downstairs was filled with seat frames and backs; the centre
panels of its roof had been removed at some stage.
General
Re PX3/36, and LYR 763, it is believed that Atlantic National Advertising Agency, -?-, VA, may have been the
body sourcing the bus for the City of Hampton, LYR 763’s next operator.
Re PX3/36, and MXX 268, Department of Commerce, Hampton, are believed to have been acquiring MXX 268
on behalf of the City’s transport department, so we will record as City of Hampton, Hampton.
