Other laws non-residents and guides should be aware <strong>of</strong><br />
u It is unlawful to act as a guide without a valid guiding licence.<br />
u All big game guides must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents <strong>of</strong> Canada,<br />
at least 18 years <strong>of</strong> age.<br />
u Outfitters must provide a separate guide for each big game hunter.<br />
Special Guide Licences<br />
If you hold a valid <strong>Yukon</strong> resident big game hunting licence, and are at least 18 years<br />
<strong>of</strong> age, you may apply for a Special Guide Licence to guide a Canadian citizen or<br />
permanent resident who is not a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yukon</strong>. It is unlawful to accept payment<br />
or reward <strong>of</strong> any kind for this service. You must meet all your responsibilities as a guide<br />
as described on the previous page. Harvest fees must be paid on all big game animals<br />
killed. Bison, goat, sheep, elk, deer, and wolverine cannot be hunted under a Special<br />
Guide Licence.<br />
Only 100 Special Guide Licences will be issued each year. They are issued on<br />
a first-come, first-served basis. If you plan on guiding someone, please do<br />
not delay your application for a Special Guide Licence until their arrival or you<br />
may be disappointed.<br />
Species and areas<br />
Special Guide Licences are available for the following species and areas only and are<br />
subject to the general hunting laws. Special Guide Maps have been developed and<br />
are available from <strong>Environment</strong> <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices or can be downloaded from:<br />
www.env.gov.yk.ca/huntingtrapping/huntingregulations.php<br />
u Moose in Zones 1, 2, 3, 8, 10 and 11 and Subzones 4–01, 4–02, 4–04 to 4–50,<br />
4-52; 5–01 to 5–21, 5–25, 5–27, 5–29, 5–43, 5–44, 5–48 to 5–51; and 9–08 to<br />
9–11. (Please note the voluntary no-hunting request in Subzones 4–42 to 4–46.)<br />
u Caribou in Zones 1 and 2 and Subzones 4–01, 4–02, 4–04 to 4–50, 4-52; 8–01<br />
to 8–11, 8–18 to 8–25; 10–01 to 10–04, 10–10 to 10–16, 10–20 to 10–32; 11–01,<br />
11–19, 11–24 to 11–46.<br />
u Grizzly bear in Subzones 5–48 to 5–50; 7–13 to 7–35; 9–01, 9–02, 9–04 and<br />
9–08 to 9–11.<br />
u Black bear, wolf, and coyote in Zones 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and<br />
Subzones 4–01, 4–02 and 4–04 to 4–50.<br />
How <strong>of</strong>ten?<br />
u Residents can obtain a Special Guide Licence once every three years.<br />
u Non-residents may be guided under a Special Guide Licence once every<br />
three years.<br />
Applications<br />
A non-refundable $10 fee must be paid when an application for a Special Guide Licence<br />
is made. Applications are available at <strong>Environment</strong> <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices.<br />
