Female black bears with cubs, and all cubs, are protected from hunting.<br />
A black bear cub includes any black bear that is less than two years old.<br />
Any black bears found together in autumn are a female and cub family group.<br />
They are protected. A female black bear may hide her cubs in a tree for up to<br />
five hours while she feeds. So please take the time to make sure that the bear<br />
you are hunting is alone.<br />
Bait: It is unlawful to use bait for bear hunting.<br />
Attaching the Seal<br />

1. Highest point <strong>of</strong> back is over the hind<br />
legs. No prominent shoulder hump.<br />
2. In pr<strong>of</strong>ile, muzzle is straight<br />
and long.<br />
3. Front claws are dark coloured,<br />
relatively short and well curved.<br />
Black bear seals can be attached to the hide or skull. See page 11 for more information<br />
about seals.<br />
Compulsory Submission<br />
When you kill a black bear, you must deliver the complete skull to a<br />
Conservation Officer or wildlife technician no later than 15 days after the<br />
end <strong>of</strong> the month in which the black bear was killed (or upon the<br />
request <strong>of</strong> a Conservation Officer).<br />
