BOCCA DI LUPO
Head Chef: Jacob Kenedy
Phone: +44 (0)20 7734 2223
Email: info@boccadilupo.com
Address: 12 Archer Street, W1D 7BB
Website: www.boccadilupo.com
Cuisine: Italian
Style/Ambiance: Striking a nice balance between Italian trattoria and
urbane Soho chic, this small, buzzy restaurant is perfect for lunch or
pre-theater supper. Chef Kenedy takes traditional dishes from across
Italy and offers each in a large or small portion, letting you eat as
heartily or as lightly as you desire—no-one’s waiting to correct you.
Expect some lesser known flavors like trofie with cuttlefish and its ink,
veal tongue with peara (bread and bone marrow polenta), and Luganega
deluxe—a pork and foie gras sausage with nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.
The private dining suite seats up to 34, and the generous all-Italian wine
list completes the picture admirably.
Cuisine: Italian
Style/Ambiance: As a judge on Italian MasterChef and winner of seven
Michelin stars, Bruno Barbieri was bound to cause a stir with his first
UK venture. Authentic, well-presented dishes include roast supreme of
Livornese baby rooster and guanciale pork crackling with potatoes and
caramelized ‘saba’ grape must. For dessert, expect classics like tiramisu
alongside milky baked rum ‘zabaione’ with berries and syrup.
GAUThIeR SOhO
Head Chef: Alexis Gauthier
VIP contact: Alice Taylor
Phone: +44 (0)20 7494 3111
Email: info@gauthiersoho.co.uk
Address: 21 Romilly Street, W1D 5AF
Website: www.gauthiersoho.co.uk
Cuisine: French
Style/Ambiance: A refined oasis amid the razzle dazzle of Soho, this regency
townhouse evokes a bygone era of French fine dining. Cream and white at every
turn, the subdued interior lets the food do the talking, with rich offerings like
black moscato truffle risotto with brown butter and jus de roti, pink roasted squab
pigeon with meyer lemon and caramelized walnuts, and devilish desserts like
Golden Louis XV with dark chocolate and praline. Gauthier’s ‘vegecentric’ menu
has earned him three AA rosettes and a Michelin star, and waistline watchers will
appreciate (or not) the calorie count beside each dish. A warren of dining rooms
can host private parties for four to forty guests—book the cozy Chef’s Room for a
romantic meal, or the marble adorned Grand Salon for something more lavish.
