<strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> <strong>Service</strong> TM <strong>Policies</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Procedures</strong> <strong>Manual</strong><strong>Procedures</strong> for Opening an Official <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> CenterOverviewThe <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> <strong>Service</strong>, in response to recommendations from the jurisdictional agenciesthat are responsible for the administration of the <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> Program, may authorize theestablishment of <strong>GED</strong> testing centers in eligible local agencies <strong>and</strong> institutions within thejurisdiction. The <strong>GED</strong> Administrator will decide to establish a <strong>GED</strong> testing center on the basisof the need for service in the area <strong>and</strong> on the ability <strong>and</strong> willingness of the eligible agency orinstitution to follow <strong>GED</strong>TS policies <strong>and</strong> requirements for establishing <strong>and</strong> operating a <strong>GED</strong>testing center.2.1 Establishing an Official <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> CenterUnder the following established policies, the <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> <strong>Service</strong> approves the opening of allnew official <strong>GED</strong> testing centers. Official <strong>GED</strong> testing centers are facilities that provide st<strong>and</strong>ardsecure testing administration to eligible c<strong>and</strong>idates who wish to earn their jurisdictions’high school equivalency credential. Before opening an official <strong>GED</strong> testing center, the <strong>GED</strong>Administrator must first complete Form L-75 <strong>and</strong> submit the completed form for approval tothe Partner Outreach Unit, <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> <strong>Service</strong>, One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 250, Washington,DC 20036.2.2 Where an Official <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> Center May Be EstablishedSection 2: <strong>Procedures</strong> for Opening an Official <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong> CenterPOLICY: Upon authorization by the jurisdictional <strong>GED</strong> Administrator, the <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong><strong>Service</strong> may approve the establishment of an official <strong>GED</strong> testing center at thefollowing locations:A)B)C)D)Public schools or other appropriate facilities of a local education agency (LEA).Public postsecondary educational institutions accredited by the jurisdictional departmentof education or other jurisdictional agency responsible for administering the <strong>GED</strong> <strong>Testing</strong>Program.Military installations overseas or in the United States.Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals <strong>and</strong> medical centers, <strong>and</strong> federal correctional <strong>and</strong>health installations.June 2008 16
