The VFW and Auxiliary have been supporting
camp since those first years. They have
consistently been camp's largest supporter
of the campership fund. Pictured (L-R) at the
2011 convention is State VFW Commander
Darrell Blasberg and State Auxiliary
President Ann Bennett.
A big thank you to Bailey Dudley from
Pipestone Veterinary Clinic of Iowa in
Independence, for the big fund raiser they did
for camp, including this silent auction table.
Julie Thoma's son, Wade attends Camp
Courageous yearly and his sister, Krista,
works for the clinic. Their fund raiser for camp
was called Random Acts of Kindness. Each
location (they have two clinics and many
sow farms as part of their company) the
company is given $50 to do what they wish
with as long as it is donated to someone or
some organization. In turn, the location with
most money raised, best new idea, or most
original idea, gets a prize. Its usually lunch
bought or something like that. This year's
idea was to hold a silent auction at the clinic
for a few weeks for camp. The event was a
huge success! Thank you to all the staff who
gave so much to make it a success!
Thanks to this group from Graceland
University for spending a day at camp during
the summer session at Camp Courageous.
This group is composed of teachers who
spent their summer continuing their own
education. As part of their class, they spent
some time at camp doing group initiative
activities, touring and learning more about
the camp, and helping us out with a volunteer
project. Thanks to Amy Becicka for lining
everything up and to all the group members
for their willingness to help.
Marginal Note: Age is a high price to pay for maturity.
