continues to grow<br />

The RDC network continues to<br />

exp<strong>and</strong> over multiple dimensions,<br />

enhancing the benefit<br />

of the network to the <strong>Census</strong><br />

<strong>Bureau</strong>. In <strong>2010</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>2011</strong>,<br />

the RDC network exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />

in terms of locations, projects<br />

hosted, research completed,<br />

<strong>and</strong> datasets made available to<br />

researchers.<br />

In October <strong>2010</strong>, the Triangle<br />

<strong>Census</strong> RDC exp<strong>and</strong>ed beyond<br />

its original location at Duke<br />

University with a second location<br />

at RTI International in<br />

Research Triangle Park, NC. In<br />

September <strong>2011</strong>, the Atlanta<br />

<strong>Census</strong> RDC opened its location<br />

at the Federal Reserve<br />

Bank of Atlanta. Further expansion<br />

is expected in 2012 with<br />

the Northwest <strong>Census</strong> RDC<br />

in Seattle, WA, <strong>and</strong> the Texas<br />

<strong>Census</strong> RDC in College<br />

Station, TX.<br />

In <strong>2010</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>2011</strong>, 39 new RDC<br />

projects began. Of those, 17 use<br />

<strong>Census</strong> <strong>Bureau</strong> microdata (see<br />

Appendix 3-A), while 6 use data<br />

from the Agency for Healthcare<br />

Research <strong>and</strong> Quality, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Census</strong> <strong>Bureau</strong> Director Bob Groves speaks at the opening of the<br />
