Workshop was held on March<br />
10–12, <strong>2010</strong>, in Arlington, VA.<br />
More than 170 persons registered<br />
<strong>and</strong> representatives from<br />
about 40 states attended the<br />

In <strong>2010</strong>, Massachusetts <strong>and</strong> New Hampshire joined the Local<br />
Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership, completing a historic<br />
national partnership that now includes 50 states, the District of<br />
Columbia, Puerto Rico, <strong>and</strong> the U.S. Virgin Isl<strong>and</strong>s. LED is a voluntary<br />
federal-state partnership that integrates data on employees<br />
<strong>and</strong> data on employers with multiple other data sources to<br />
produce new <strong>and</strong> improved labor market information about the<br />
dynamics of the local economy <strong>and</strong> society, while strictly protecting<br />
the confidentiality of individuals <strong>and</strong> firms that provide<br />
the data.<br />

education, emergency management,<br />
workforce planning,<br />
transportation planning, <strong>and</strong><br />

Andrew Reamer of George<br />
Washington University was the<br />
lunchtime speaker on the first<br />
day <strong>and</strong> John Haltiwanger of the<br />
University of Maryl<strong>and</strong> was the<br />
lunchtime speaker on the second<br />
day. Opening remarks on March<br />
10 were offered by LED Steering<br />
Committee State Co-Chair Greg<br />
Weeks (Washington State) <strong>and</strong> by<br />
Rod Little, the <strong>Census</strong> <strong>Bureau</strong>’s<br />
Associate Director for Research<br />
<strong>and</strong> Methodology. Topics<br />
addressed by invited speakers,<br />
state partners, <strong>and</strong> data users<br />
included innovation in data<br />
presentation, economic development,<br />
workforce development,<br />
transportation planning, community<br />
issues, <strong>and</strong> unemployment.<br />
At both workshops, LED staff<br />
members described recent <strong>and</strong><br />
upcoming enhancements <strong>and</strong><br />
operations. Invited posters were<br />
also on display to showcase use<br />
of LED data <strong>and</strong> results. LED<br />
state partners held business<br />
meetings, discussed promotion<br />
of LED, <strong>and</strong> conducted a strategic<br />
planning session.<br />
All received presentations <strong>and</strong><br />
posters for both the <strong>2010</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>2011</strong> workshops are posted at<br />
