CheerleadingBy Meaghan EatonBasketball cheerleading is just as demanding on these girls as football cheerleading. These girls have put in an extreme amount ofeffort to cheer on our sports teams. This year they added many new girls to the team, along with new cheers and new stunts. The girlsspend many hours working on making their season great. Cheerleader Savannah Fletcher says, “This season has been the best yet. Giles getting ready for the play against James RiverWe Are SpartansBy Kristin GillispieWe last left our Spartans at the game againstFloyd, in which they won 63-12. After the gameagainst Floyd Giles hosted Eastmont, in whichour mighty Spartans prevailed and won with thescore of 63-12. Ian Mann had four touchdowns,while Brett Whitlow added three more to thescore board. Giles then hosted Radford, whichwas on senior night and won with a score of 41-14. With the win against Radford Giles becamethe Three River’s District Champions for thesecond straight row! Our boys then advanced tothe first round by hosting James River. The GilesSpartans once again proved themselves and won41-14. This game was the opening round of the Division WestSection football playoffs. The Spartans then traveled to JohnBattle, and sadly the season ended. Overall though ourSpartans fought hard and did their best. Our Spartans alsoreceived some recognition: Ian Mann was named offensiveplayer of the year, Garrett Lee was named defensive player ofthe year, Kearsley Dillion was named lineman of the year, andCoach Jeff Williams was voted coach of the year. We are veryproud of our boys they played a good season and we are readyfor our upcoming future Spartans!The Giles Spartans and their TRD trophyGilesandRadfordcaptainsmeetingbeforethe gameA Letter to RememberBy Kristin GillispieOn November 9 th GHS held a pep rally for the Giles andJames River game for the play offs. The pep rally was likeevery other with special events. Although little did some knowthat someone who has been a fan for quite a long time wouldget some special treatment. The notorious Super SpartanArnold Tickle was presented with his very own LettermanJacket. Tickle was in shock when they asked him to come to themiddle of the gym. Super Spartan made his way to the centerand was greeted by Coach Brandon Webb. Webb pulled out aLetterman Jacket which was a gift from the Monogram Clubfor all the support that Tickle has provided the Spartans for thepast thirty plus years.“I was totally surprised, I didn’t expect athing. I’m so appreciative of it and it was a greathonor for me to receive the jacket!
