Relationship to Open CountrysideOther than in The Street, Walsham leWillows gives the general impression ofbeing fairly spread out with muchintervening countryside between itsoutlying hamlets.Even within The Street, there areoccasional views and access to both thenorth and south into countryside orparkland.A number of roads were stopped upduring the early 19 th Century enclosuresand remain to this day as useful footpathlinks around the parish. One such headsoff northwards from The Street as FP7until it meets FP6 which joins betweenSumner Road and the Wattisfield road.FP 9 similarly heads westwards off TheCauseway until it meets The Ixworthroad and FP10 joining just south of thecemetery from the Badwell Ash road.Another radial route is FP1 whichstretches from the south end ofTownhouse Road about a mile and a halfeastwards towards Westhorpe along aroute known as Hartshall Lane.The village is therefore fairly well servedby footpaths giving access to theadjacent countryside, as well as by rurallanes, which for the most part providelinks between the hamlets. The otheraspect of the village is its extensive treecover and the river, which flows throughthe heart, both of which make the areafeel more natural than the semiindustrialfarmland surrounding it.
