The Order of Saint MichaelThe Order of St. Michael and Order of St. Mary Magdalene are among theprinciple orders in the Sophian lineage. The Order of St. Mary Magdalene, as itsname implies represents a path of devotion to the Divine and Sacred Feminine, the Magdalene Path, and the Order of St. Michael represents the guardianshipof this Sophian Gnostic tradition; and specifically represents an order of the“Knights and Dames of the Holy Grail.”Originally, these two orders represented teachings and practices through whichmen and women might honor the Holy Bride, the Order of St. Michael beingprimarily for men and the Order of St. Mary Magdalene being primarily forwomen; however, in modern times these orders are open fully to both men andwomen – though, no doubt, men will have a special understanding of St.Michael in their experience as men, just as women will have a special understanding of St. MaryMagdalene in their experience as women. In some legends of the Holy Bride she is said to have a daughter (Sarah) and in others she is said tohave a son (Michael), and in some she is said to have “twins,” a daughter and a son. Thus, the Order ofSt. Michael acquires its name from legends of Mary Magdalene giving birth to a son called “Michael,”but also acquires its name from the archangel Michael, inspired by the twelfth chapter of Book ofApocalypse. To understand the generation of the Order of St. Michael the Order of St. Mary Magdalene must bemention, for quite literally it was an order created to guard the Sophian/Magdalene line of GnosticApostolic Succession and is said to be an “old Gnostic Templar lineage.” It is a Chivalric Gnostic orderthat stands independently from other chivalric orders, and by nature is an esoteric chivalric order, foras much as teaching the principles of chivalry and the righteous warrior outwardly, inwardly it teachesthe “art of a spiritual warrior,” an art of divine theurgy (“the way of the exorcist”), which is used as ameans of invisible and spiritual protection of the Sophian Gnostic lineage and its initiates, and isextended to people in need of assistance.Initiation into the Order of St. Michael is based upon the ceremony of a dubbing of a chevalier (a knightor dame) and the speaking of the Holy Vow of the Order; the key symbols of the Order are the Sword(or Lance) and the Grail, which are used in a Gnostic Mass that reflects a key mystery celebrated in theOrder: Hieros Gamos. The ceremonial robe of the Order is a white robe with a red Templar cross on it and a red cord is worn, and typically black clothing is worn beneath the robe.Although the Order of St. Michael is an esoteric and initiatory order, the spiritual wisdom of many ofthe teachings and practices can be beneficial to the initiate and non-initiate alike; also, due to the3
