LABELLA 7710 Black Nylon Tape Tape Wound A
reported favorite of jazz bassist Ron Carter, these strings
are pretty popular for that and other reasons. They are metal
rope core strings, surrounded by a black nylon wrap, for a
smooth feel. They were originally designed to emulate gut,
but they have a bit more of the feel of steel strings. The bottom end is
good, but I haven't played a set in a while, so I haven’t much to say. $140
LENZNER Gut Strings I auditioned a set of these my
old '41 Kay, and I have to say, it was like "coming home" as
it had been about 25+ years since I had gut on my bass, and
the soft feel and organic sweetness was both surprising and
satisfying. The manufacturing techniques for gut strings has
come a long way, as it has for all strings, as they are very uniform and the
lowest strings have a nicely distinct but warm tone, unlike gut strings I
played in the sixties. If you want the sound of vintage, all-natural bass, or
are a rockabilly player wanting the most authentic sound, consider. Lenzner

with a thin metal wrap. Designed to emulate gut strings, their
attack is "old school" with that thicker, warmer hit, with less
sustain than most modern strings and they are a dream to
bow. If you want a "traditional" sound for any style, you will

for bowing, but they have a very musical, warm pizz.
