phoenix/NEBULIN are and the power of their music. Their influencesrange from Nine Inch Nails, Bjork and Depeche Mode.Their industrial rock sound is irresistible, all the key elements fittogether naturally. It’s definitely something you want to listen towithout pause. It’s a mysterious yet enjoyable journey whichmay put your curiosity to the test. The music goes from loudferocious tracks like “Acid Bath” to soothing melodies with songslike “Time” and “Voice De La Luna” a tribute to Linda Doval andArmando’s daughter. The lyrics tell a story unlike no other, asyou take yourself into the mind of vocalist Linda Doval. Distanzawill breathe new life into your aching pores. Highly recommendedto fans of industrial rock. phoenixnebulin.com -Joseph VilaneSlipknotVol. 3: (The SubliminalVerses)RoadrunnerEasily one of the most anticipatedmetal albums this year,Slipknot’s third effort finds theIowa band still chaotic andbrutal, but also a little betterfocused than in the past, andnot quiteAso schizophrenic.Corey Taylor (Number 8)proved himself as a versatilevocalist with his other band Stone Sour, and he brings that versatilityto this album. His vocals are clear and precise, and verymelodic, but don’t take that to mean he doesn’t scream his headoff. The percussion is nothing short of bombastic and turntablerSid (Number 0) and sampler mastermind Craig (Number 5)add layers of complexity to the tracks on Vol. 3, sometimes in avery subtle and subliminal way. Buoyed by the lead single “Duality”and the fan-inspired “Pulse of the Maggots”, Vol. 3 will godown as one of the best releases this year. Slipknot has reallyoutdone themselves this time—and if this is indeed their lastalbum, then they will go out at the top of their game. Highlyrecommended. slipknot1.com —Juliett RoweOne:Self-titledSelf releaseOne has come a long way inthe short time that they havebeen together, and this LakePark, Florida band has finallygraced us with a full lengthdisc. The band’s two breakouthits “Stand True” and “Immune”were both top requests on103.1 The Buzz in West Palm Beach, and both are on this disc. One doesn’t reinvent the musical wheel by any means, nor do theyever claim to. However they are very good at what they do: modernrock with monster hooks, guitar driven melody, and memorablelyrics. Vocalist Muk has a great rock voice, and he is able to gofrom melody to raw vocal aggression at the drop of a dime. JohnCuilla’s guitar work isn’t forced or self indulgent; however it is fullof emotion and his energetic playing carries the band. BassistMike and drummer Fish hold the rhythm down tight while adding asense of urgency to the band’s music. One just might have abreakout cd on their hands. thebandone.com –Juliett Rowe
