week?’ We are on a label that’s really good for us calledArtemis, and they got involved on our last record through ourlast record company.Rag: You seem pretty mellow right now.Tim: I’m pretty mellow most of the time, except for when weplay....Sometimes I think that I don’t have much to say. It’s weird.Sometimes I feel like you do interviews and people anticipatemore to come out. Sometimes I have a difficult time articulatingwhat I exactly mean when I’m writing a song. To me I just dowhatever comes natural. The same way like when I’m hungry Ieat, when I want air I breathe, when I want to write a song aboutsomething I write a songs about something. I can’t really givean exact reason why I chose that word, or if there’s a doublemeaning behind something. In terms of touring I just kind of sortof do what we’re told to do, like when we get a tour that soundscool, we’ll take it. Lately I feellike we’re not going to tour asmuch because I don’t like beingout on the road for verylong for my sanity. I feel like Iwrite more music when I’mhome, and ultimately that’smore important to me thanhaving some giant tourfanbase. That I get to writeand record as many songs asI can–that’s more important tome than trying to win somecompetition to play four hundredshows a year. We’ll tourwhat most bands probablytour. I’d like to see ourselvesrecording more, becausethat’s one thing that I find dissatisfyingabout our band isthat we have a very small bodyof recorded music. I just thinkthat for a band that works thishard, not to say as big as weare, because I don’t thinkwe’re that big, but you’d thinkthat we’d be a band that wouldhave just one record out, andit doesn’t seem like enough. We milked too much out ofStart Static–that’s how I feel.if you would be doing this in 25 or 30 years?Tim: No, I won’t. I know I won’t. I really like producing records, that’s what I really want to do....I think that working in a studio...Ireally enjoy being artistic, and I don’t think that playing in a bandis as artistically gratifying as other avenues in music. I thinkwhat will probably happen is I’ll probably produce records andhave a small career on the side after Sugarcult is all done andover with.Rag: If you’re driving and you’re listening to the record–whereare you driving?Tim: Definitely California. I think you’re driving on a freeway nearthe beach. And I think it’s close to dusk, there’s some fog, and it’snot the most amazing sunny day. It might even be a little rainy.Visit www.sugarcult.com for more info.PAPA ROACHRag: What did you listen togrowing up?Tim: I listened to a lot ofpop...Phil Collins, Huey Lewisand The News, things likethat.Rag: Was there anyone whojust really inspired you?Tim: Elvis Costello really inspiresme. I really like ElvisCostello; I think he’s abadass.Rag: Have you thought about
