<strong>EEB</strong> PUBLICATION NUMBER 2009/001THE EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL BUREAU (<strong>EEB</strong>)<strong>EEB</strong> is a federation of over 150 environmental citizens’ organisations based inmost EU Member States, most c<strong>and</strong>idate <strong>and</strong> potential c<strong>and</strong>idate countries aswell as in a few neighbouring countries. These organisations range from local<strong>and</strong> national, <strong>to</strong> European <strong>and</strong> international.<strong>EEB</strong>’s aim is <strong>to</strong> protect <strong>and</strong> improve Europe’s environment <strong>and</strong> enable itscitizens <strong>to</strong> play a part in achieving that goal, by promoting environmentalpolicy integration <strong>and</strong> sustainable policies, particularly at EU level. Our officein Brussels was established in 1974 <strong>to</strong> provide a focal point for our members<strong>to</strong> moni<strong>to</strong>r <strong>and</strong> respond <strong>to</strong> the EU’s emerging environmental policy.We have an information service, run working groups of <strong>EEB</strong> members,produce position papers on <strong>to</strong>pics that are, or should be, on the EU agenda,<strong>and</strong> represent our members in discussions with the Commission, the EuropeanParliament <strong>and</strong> the Council.
