Heavy rains forced the schooling show to be moved from a soggySouthern Comfort Farm on Saturday to Las Colinas Equestrian Center onSunday. We held out hope for a drying wind until Friday morning when wehad to admit that Mother Nature just wasn’t going to help. Since the show hadattracted a record number of entries, the board agreed that DDC would pullout all the stops to give as many of those entrants a chance to school theirhorses in a show environment. Las Colinas was available, and we spread theword as fast and as best we could to all that wanted to come. And come theydid!!! One rider even trailered in and camped out with her horse the nightbefore so that she could show! Now, that is devotion to the sport. For many riders, showing in the big covered arena was a rareopportunity to prepare for the upcoming recognized shows. For others, justthe chance to ride in the “big top” was better than any ribbon. The staff atLCEC went above and beyond in opening up their facility to us and seemedto magically show up every time we needed something.DDC member Gail Abele generously donated her time to judging 4 hoursin a second ring and Bess Reineman was our judge in the main arena.Alecia Daniel and Margaret Walker won amateur and junior high point awardsrespectively. Instride Manufacturing very generously donated two giftcertificates that were given to the award winners.-13-First 1 A Silvia Stoumbaugh Chip 62.00%First 1 A Jennifer Gyger Guinness 61.11%First 1 A Christine Hutmacher Gracie 60.37%First 1 A Kristin Cyprus Wizard of Oz 57.78%First 1 A Sharon Small Marchoso 57.04%First 1 A Maike Moore Legacy 50.74%First 1 J Caroline Sibley Lancelot 62.59%First 1 J Tara Gleason Duelly 59.26%First 1 O Jennifer Weems Globetrotter 60.00%First 1 O Kathy Wolter Picture Perfect 59.25%First 2 A Maria Kebschull Akatscho 65.08%First 2 A Sharon Small Marchoso 60.55%First 2 A Christine Hutmacher Gracie 59.71%First 2 A Silvia Stoumbaugh Chip 59.12%First 2 A Jennifer Gyger Guinness 53.82%First 2 J Caroline Sibley Lancelot 64.10%First 2 O Kathy Wolter Picture Perfect 63.24%First 4 J Jessica Blackmon Frenchie EFirst 4 O Emilee Reed Cortez 56.67%Throughout the day, many riders came by the office table to share in their excitement of their rides and those of their friends and family. As the showmanager for the day, I can say that the best part for me was the chance to meet new friends and trade stories with old friends. It seemed that a great timewas had by all and many thanks to my devoted volunteers who arrived at 7:30 in the morning and stayed until the last rail was put away in the evening.Sandy Holcomb
